The aim of Public Safety and Policing, in the party's words
TrueBlue Vancouver's approach to public safety & policing is organized around the following commitments.
The public safety and policing section of TrueBlue Vancouver's 2026 platform is on pages 25 to 28. It covers community services that work alongside police, police funding, police misconduct, police in schools and what the party calls the upstream causes of crime.
TrueBlue rejects what it calls defund-the-police rhetoric and would maintain strong police funding, staffing, training and resources. It would use community services for non-criminal issues and keep police in charge where there is violence, crime or serious disorder. It would support officers who serve lawfully and have serious misconduct allegations investigated independently. It would address addiction, homelessness and youth crime through treatment and prevention while keeping consequences for repeat offenders. The police-in-schools policy is repeated in the schools section, where this site lists it.
Council approves the police budget, but the Vancouver Police Board directs the department. Sentencing is decided by the courts, and treatment services are provincial.
