TrueBlue Vancouver on climate: building rules, flooding and heat waves
Climate Change, Heat and Fires is the first section of TrueBlue Vancouver's 2026 platform. The party would repeal municipal green building mandates and gas-stove bans, spend on drainage, dikes and seawalls, and keep pools and community centres open in heat waves.

The aim of Climate Change, Heat and Fires, in the party's words
TrueBlue Vancouver's approach to climate change, heat, & fires is organized around the following commitments.
TrueBlue Vancouver opens its 2026 platform with a section on climate change, heat and fires, on pages 5 to 9 of the PDF. The section lists policies on buildings, flooding, green space, cars and parking, urban heat, walking and cycling, and zoning. Several of those are printed again, word for word, in later sections, so this page shows the policies that appear only here, and points to the others.
The party's approach is to remove city climate rules on buildings and to spend on physical protection. TrueBlue would repeal municipal green building mandates, retrofit rules and gas-stove bans, let builders choose their own energy sources, and direct money to drainage, dikes, seawalls and storm sewers. For heat, it would keep pools, rinks and community centres working, without new rules or taxes on private owners. The section names no target, cost or date.
Council controls Vancouver's own building bylaw and the budget for sewers and drainage. The pools, rinks and community centres named in the heat policy belong to the separately elected Park Board. The green space policy is shown in the public spaces section, the cars, parking, walking and cycling policies in the transit section, and the zoning policy in the housing section.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Questions about Climate Change, Heat and Fires
What is TrueBlue Vancouver's climate change platform?
TrueBlue Vancouver's climate section would repeal municipal green building mandates, complex retrofit rules and gas-stove bans, and focus tax dollars on drainage, dike maintenance and seawall repairs. It would keep pools, community centres and rinks working in heat waves (platform, pages 6 to 8).
Does TrueBlue Vancouver have an emissions target?
The climate section gives no emissions target, cost or date. Its policies focus on removing building rules and on spending for drainage, coastal defences and cooling at civic facilities (platform, pages 5 to 9).
Would TrueBlue Vancouver keep the gas stove ban?
No. TrueBlue would repeal gas-stove bans along with what it calls costly municipal green building mandates and complex retrofits. It would let builders and homeowners choose their own heating, cooling and energy sources (platform, page 6).
What does TrueBlue Vancouver's climate section say about cars and bike lanes?
The climate section includes the party's policies opposing road pricing and auditing bike lanes. The same text is repeated in the transit section, where this site lists it (platform, pages 7 to 8 and 43 to 44).
Who would carry out TrueBlue Vancouver's climate policies?
Council controls Vancouver's own building bylaw and the city's drainage and sewer budget. The pools, rinks and community centres in the heat policy are run by the separately elected Park Board (platform, pages 6 to 8).
