TrueBlue Vancouver on housing: faster permits, no Villages Plan, treatment first

TrueBlue Vancouver's housing section would cut fees and permit delays, encourage suites and rentals, oppose the Villages Plan and provincial density mandates, restrain property-tax increases, and pair enforcement against encampments with shelter, treatment and transitional housing.

The aim of Housing and Homelessness, in the party's words

TrueBlue Vancouver's approach to housing & homelessness is organized around the following commitments.

The party's own words, 2026 Full Election Platform, page 10

The housing and homelessness section of TrueBlue Vancouver's 2026 platform runs from page 10 to page 15. It covers the cost of building, rentals, homes for people with disabilities and seniors, zoning and the Villages Plan, building safety, homelessness, supportive housing and property taxes. We split it into two pages: one on building and zoning, and one on homelessness, building safety and taxes.

The party's housing approach relies on private builders and on local control. TrueBlue would lower city fees, speed up permits that meet existing rules and make legal rental suites easier to create. It strongly opposes the Villages Plan, a City staff proposal to rezone 17 village areas, and would reject provincial blanket-densification mandates. On homelessness, it would pair firm enforcement against permanent encampments with shelter, treatment, recovery and transitional housing.

Council sets zoning, permit fees and the property tax rate, and funds shelter sites and outreach. Tenancy law, rent limits, treatment and health services are provincial, and provincial housing laws apply in Vancouver whatever Council decides. The section's policy on Indigenous-led housing is printed again in the reconciliation section, where this site lists it.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Questions about Housing and Homelessness

What is TrueBlue Vancouver's housing platform?

TrueBlue Vancouver would reduce municipal fees, permit delays and regulations on home building, fast-track permits that meet existing rules, and encourage secondary suites and purpose-built rentals. It opposes the Villages Plan and provincial blanket-densification mandates (platform, pages 11 to 15).

Does TrueBlue Vancouver support more density in Vancouver?

The party would protect single-family and low-density neighbourhoods, give locals binding input on development proposals and require infrastructure before density is added. It strongly opposes the Villages Plan (platform, page 15).

What is TrueBlue Vancouver's homelessness policy?

TrueBlue would pair firm enforcement against permanent encampments with shelter, treatment, recovery and transitional housing. It would give supportive housing priority to people it calls genuinely in need (platform, pages 12 and 14).

What does TrueBlue Vancouver say about property taxes?

The party would restrain property-tax increases, run a citywide spending review, and cut waste and bureaucracy. It names no percentage target (platform, page 13).

Can Vancouver City Council deliver TrueBlue's housing plan?

Council sets zoning, permit fees and the property tax rate, and decides on City plans such as the Villages Plan. Provincial housing laws, tenancy law and treatment services are set by the Province, so on those the city could only ask (platform, pages 11 to 15).
