TrueBlue Vancouver on policing: strong funding, no defunding, consequences for repeat crime

TrueBlue Vancouver rejects calls to defund the police and would maintain strong police funding, staffing and training. It supports independent investigation of serious misconduct, would use community services only for non-criminal issues, and would keep consequences for serious and repeat offenders.

Police Funding, Accountability and Upstream Causes of Crime: what the 2026 Full Election Platform says

TrueBlue Vancouver's policing section is built on what it calls strong police funding. The party rejects what it calls defund-the-police rhetoric and would make sure officers have the staffing, training and resources it says they need to keep Vancouver safe. It would use community services for suitable non-criminal issues, and says these should never replace police where public safety, violence, crime or serious disorder is involved.

On police conduct, TrueBlue would support officers who serve lawfully and professionally, and it would make sure that credible allegations of serious misconduct are investigated independently. On the causes of crime, the party would deal with addiction, homelessness and youth crime through treatment, prevention and intervention, while keeping consequences for serious and repeat offenders. Its policy on police liaison officers in schools is listed in the schools section.

Council approves the police budget, but the Vancouver Police Board directs the police department. A council could fund more officers and still leave decisions on how they are deployed to the board. Courts, sentencing and criminal law are outside city control. The police-in-schools policy, listed in the schools section, would also need the School Board. The platform gives no figure for police staffing or the police budget.
