OneCity housing plan: 4,000 homes on city land, small lots and renter protections
OneCity's Housing for All plan would have a city-run People's Builder build 4,000 affordable homes on city land, allow 25-foot lots and single-stair buildings, bring back the Renters' Office, protect renters after six months and end what it calls ABC's ban on new supportive housing.
CITY COUNCIL
The aim of Housing for All, in the party's words
OneCity today released The Way Home & Housing for All, the party’s comprehensive plan to build housing of all kinds everywhere.
OneCity released The Way Home & Housing for All on September 24, 2026. On its Our Plans page the party also calls it A Way Home for Every Vancouverite. It is the party's housing plan, and it includes OneCity's largest number: 4,000 affordable family homes built by the city on land it already owns.
These pages follow the party's own sections. The first covers the People's Builder and Small Lots & Strong Blocks, the zoning changes for smaller lots, single-stair buildings, corner stores and taller buildings near city centres. The second, A City for Renters, covers the Renters' Office, tenant protections and pets. The third, Welcome Neighbours Home, covers supportive housing, shelters and community land trusts.
Council sets zoning, approves rezonings and owns city land, so it controls most of this plan. Tenancy law is provincial, and the People's Builder counts on federal money.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Questions about Housing for All
What is OneCity's housing plan for Vancouver?
OneCity's Housing for All plan, released September 24, 2026, would have a city-run People's Builder build 4,000 affordable homes on city land, allow 25-foot lots and single-stair buildings, bring back the Renters' Office and end what it calls ABC's ban on new supportive housing (OneCity Housing for All plan).
How many homes would OneCity build?
OneCity says a city-run People's Builder would build 4,000 affordable family homes on land the city already owns. The page gives no timeline or list of sites (OneCity Housing for All plan, September 24, 2026).
What would OneCity do for renters?
OneCity would bring back the Renters' Office, expand the Tenant Relocation and Protection Policy so renters qualify after six months, make developers pay renters when construction delays their move-in, and end the pet ban in city-owned housing (OneCity Housing for All plan, September 24, 2026).
Does OneCity support more housing in single-family neighbourhoods?
OneCity would allow 25-foot lots, five-foot setbacks, courtyards between four-storey buildings, single-stair buildings, four-storey buildings with corner stores everywhere and six storeys near city centres. It says the changes would allow these homes, with the choice to build left to owners (OneCity Housing for All plan).
Can Vancouver City Council deliver OneCity's housing plan?
Mostly. Council sets zoning, approves rezonings and controls city land. Tenancy law is provincial, so OneCity can only ask the Province on no-pet clauses, and the People's Builder counts on federal funding (OneCity Housing for All plan, September 24, 2026).
