OneCity's Park Board plan: three new pools, more lifeguards, more park land
OneCity's Park Board candidates would let the board keep the money it earns, raise the tree canopy target to 40%, grow park land from 11% to 12% of the city, keep pools staffed with lifeguards, and build new pools in Mount Pleasant, Hastings and Marpole.
PARK BOARD
The aim of Better Parks, Pipes, & Pools, in the party's words
OneCity Park Board candidates John Irwin, Tyler Petersen, and Dominic Denofrio today released A Plan for Better Parks, Pipes, & Pools , the party's plan to make sure every neighbourhood gets the parks, community centres, and pools it needs, and that the boring basics underneath them keep working.
OneCity's Park Board candidates, John Irwin, Tyler Petersen and Dominic Denofrio, published their plan on September 29, 2026. The Our Plans page groups it with the schools plan under one heading, Better Schools, Parks, Pipes, & Pools in Every Neighbourhood. Here the parks plan has its own section, because the Park Board is a separately elected body with its own vote.
The plan covers money, nature and swimming. The party would let the Park Board keep its own revenue, grow park land and the tree canopy, bring buried creeks back to the surface, keep pools and beaches staffed, and build new pools in three neighbourhoods. The party says the plan also covers "the boring basics underneath" parks and pools, and the city's pipe repairs appear in its budget plan. The Park Board runs pools, beaches and parks, but the money for new buildings comes through the capital plan that City Council approves.
