Vancouver Liberals on public safety: money laundering, firefighters and partner violence
Public Safety in the Vancouver Liberals' 2026 plan targets money laundering through a Bitcoin ATM ban and the closing of unchecked currency exchanges. It also backs firefighters, a meth strategy and police liaison officers in schools, and declares intimate partner violence a crisis.
CITY COUNCIL
The aim of Public Safety, in the party's words
Vancouver needs stronger action against the financial networks enabling crime in our communities.
Public Safety is the second topic on the Vancouver Liberals' issues page, and its largest theme is money laundering. The party says crime money moves through Bitcoin ATMs, currency exchanges and payday loan shops, and it would ban or replace them. It states its aim as: "Vancouver needs stronger action against the financial networks enabling crime in our communities."
The topic also covers firefighters, for whom the party would support staffing, long-term funding and open deployment planning; a long-term methamphetamine strategy for Vancouver and BC; and keeping the School Liaison Officer Program in schools. A one-page PDF adds the party's intimate partner violence policy, which would declare a public health and public safety crisis and work with the Vancouver Police Board on the police response.
Power over these items is spread out. Council approves the police and fire budgets and controls business licences. The Vancouver Police Board directs the police, the Board of Education runs schools, and criminal law, treatment and drug policy belong to the provincial and federal governments.
