Crisis Response, Overdoses and Treatment: what the 2026 Full Election Platform says
TrueBlue Vancouver's drug policy starts from its opposition to what it calls the normalization of hard drug use. Under the heading on overdoses and the contaminated drug supply, the party would focus city resources on prevention, treatment, recovery and enforcement against traffickers and dealers. Its goal for addiction treatment is to help people become drug free and rebuild independent lives, and it would expand access to detox, treatment and long-term recovery programs.
For people in a serious mental health crisis, TrueBlue would expand crisis response and connect them with treatment, care and support, which the platform contrasts with leaving them on the streets. A separate policy covers schools: the party would focus school mental health resources on practical counselling and student wellbeing, and keep parents informed and involved. Neither policy gives a number of crisis workers or counsellors.
Most of this chapter depends on the Province. Health services, treatment beds and drug policy are provincial and federal, and Vancouver's public schools are run by the elected School Board. Council can direct city spending and outreach, and approves the police budget, but the Vancouver Police Board directs the police. The party's own principles on page 3 say the city should identify what it can do directly and what requires cooperation or advocacy.
