INDIGENOUS RECONCILIATION AND RIGHTS

BC NDP on reconciliation

The BC NDP had not published a campaign position on the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), the provincial law on Indigenous rights, by September 30, 2026.

In April 2026 the government dropped its plan to bring in a bill that session to pause parts of DRIPA. The Canadian Press reported that it now wants to work out a joint approach with First Nations. See the record section.

The party’s mining plan says exploration permits would come with “meaningful First Nations engagement”. On September 30, 2026 Eby issued a statement for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation that called the appearance of a masked group on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc lands “a cowardly act of hate”.
