Keep parks public, reverse outsourcing, and hold off major projects pending review
What Independent Parks Party has published about parks and recreation, and what it has not.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Independent Parks Party on parks
The platform's largest group of positions concerns who runs parks and how. It opposes selling park names or transferring parks to the private sector, and it would reverse the outsourcing of park maintenance.
Several positions ask for a pause: on the Vancouver Aquatic Centre renovation, on Britannia Pool renovations, and on new commercial development inside parks, each until a review is done.
The platform names no cost or completion date for any of these.

What they say they will do
Keep parks in public ownership
Parks would remain fully in the public domain, not transferred in whole or part to the private sector, and their names would not be sold to private corporations.
Reverse outsourcing of park maintenance
Park maintenance now outsourced to private companies would be brought back in-house.
Make temporary parks permanent
Every park now classified as temporary would be reclassified as permanent.
Freeze the Vancouver Aquatic Centre renovation pending a 50-metre pool review
Work on the Aquatic Centre renovation would stop until a full analysis of ways to keep the 50-metre pool is done.
Hold Britannia Pool renovations while the Aquatic Centre is out of service
Britannia Pool renovations would be paused while the Vancouver Aquatic Centre is unavailable, so the city keeps a working pool.
Decline new commercial development inside parks
The party would not approve new commercial developments in Stanley Park or other parks that reduce green space, encroach on forest, or degrade the visitor experience.
Overhaul Kitsilano Pool's booking system and hold a town hall on its future
Booking restrictions at Kitsilano Pool would be removed so the pool can be used at its historical capacity, with a town hall before any renovation or replacement.
Repair the David Lam Park playground and fix its reseeding downtime
The party would address underfunding at the David Lam Park playground and convene an expert panel on its long seasonal closures for grass reseeding.
Assess restoring the Stanley Park miniature train
An expert panel would advise on recovering from logging damage near the Stanley Park train, aiming to restore it.
