The platform wording is "Doubling down on childcare (double our 2000 new spaces)". Read plainly that is a commitment to a further 2,000 spaces.

The claim that 2,000 spaces were created in the last term is ABC’s own account of its record. We have not checked it against city records.

A city creates child care spaces through zoning, city-owned buildings and money collected from developers. Licensing, subsidies and operating funding come from the province, so a city can build a room but cannot on its own decide what a parent pays.
