Double the 2,000 new child care spaces
ABC commits to "doubling down on childcare", which its platform defines as doubling the 2,000 new spaces it says it created.
CHILD CARE
ABC Vancouver on child care
The platform wording is "Doubling down on childcare (double our 2000 new spaces)". Read plainly that is a commitment to a further 2,000 spaces.
The claim that 2,000 spaces were created in the last term is ABC’s own account of its record. We have not checked it against city records.
A city creates child care spaces through zoning, city-owned buildings and money collected from developers. Licensing, subsidies and operating funding come from the province, so a city can build a room but cannot on its own decide what a parent pays.
