HOMELESSNESS AND THE DRUG CRISIS
Vote Vancouver on homelessness and drugs
The document's clearest homelessness position is reversing the City's ban on new supportive housing, which it credits to a motion by Rebecca Bligh.
Its addiction and mental health proposals include continuing to fund a specific existing program, St. Paul's Road to Recovery, and building new Recovery Community Centres.
4 PUBLISHED COMMITMENTS
What they say they will do
Reverse the ban on new supportive housing
The party would reverse a City ban on building new supportive housing, to allow replacing single-room-occupancy hotels with self-contained supportive homes connected to mental health, addiction, social work and job supports.
- Who has the power
- Approving supportive housing is a City land use and permitting decision.
Support St. Paul's Road to Recovery program
The party would keep supporting the Road to Recovery program by building more supportive housing for people exiting it, and continuing to fund Vancouver Coastal Health.
Build more Recovery Community Centres
The party would build more Recovery Community Centres to connect people with peer support and wellness activities, bridging the gap to detox and treatment.
Better coordinate police, health and housing responses
The party would improve coordination between police, healthcare providers, housing providers and community organizations so police are not the only response to mental health and addiction crises.
What is not published
- Most items name no cost and no date. The document credits several of these to Rebecca Bligh personally, and those are also recorded on her own candidate record.
