Community Spaces, Arts and Festivals: what the Policy Priorities says
This page joins two short lists from Vote Vancouver's Public Services section: one on community spaces and one on arts and culture. The first starts with public washrooms. The party would build more of them in and near shopping districts, parks, the Downtown Eastside, community centres, pedestrian plazas and other busy public areas. The party would also create more small outdoor spaces for music and performance. It would push for more dog-friendly patios across the city and more areas in parks where dogs are allowed.
On arts and culture, Vote Vancouver would raise the funding cap for arts and culture events, with more money for event security so that security inside an event's fence is funded at the same rate as security outside it. It would create a Festivals Vancouver Fund to help deliver neighbourhood festivals, and keep supporting large festivals, naming the Vancouver Film Festival, the Vancouver Fringe Festival and Khatsilano. Council funds cultural grants, licenses events and builds city facilities, so it can act on washrooms, event funding and the festivals fund. Spaces inside parks are run by the Park Board, and the party describes the patio item as advocacy.
