About Rebecca Bligh
Rebecca Bligh is a two-term Vancouver city councillor running for mayor with Vote Vancouver, the party she founded in September 2025. Her official ballot number is 52.
She was born in New Zealand and moved to Canada at age ten. She has lived in Vancouver for more than 20 years. Before politics she worked for local businesses, including a security company, and founded BLACKPiiN, a consulting practice that trains executives and teams. Her Federation of Canadian Municipalities biography also lists leadership training delivered in Ethiopia and Mozambique for two non-profit organizations.
She was elected to Council in 2018 with the Non-Partisan Association, receiving 44,053 votes. In December 2019 she left the NPA, saying the party no longer supported her as its only queer elected official after people linked to anti-SOGI activism joined its executive. She joined ABC Vancouver and was re-elected in 2022 with 62,765 votes.
On February 14, 2025, ABC removed her from its caucus. The party said she was not aligned with its shared priorities; she had publicly disagreed with the mayor’s proposed halt on new supportive housing. She then sat as an independent councillor until she announced Vote Vancouver and her mayoral candidacy on September 22, 2025.
She has sat on the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities since 2018 and served as its president from October 2024 to June 2026, the second Vancouver councillor to hold that office in more than 70 years, according to Vancity Lookout. She is also a director of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. She lives in Vancouver with her partner Laura and their two adult children.
