Vancouver's 2026 municipal election is today, Saturday, October 17. All voting stations across the city are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Vancouver Is Awesome reports.
Voters choose candidates in four races and answer five ballot questions. You pick one mayor from eight candidates, up to 10 city councillors, up to seven park board commissioners and up to nine school board trustees.
What to bring
Bring your voter information card if you received one in the mail. The City says it speeds up processing at the station. If you did not receive a card or are registering on voting day, bring two pieces of ID: at least one must show your address and at least one must carry your signature.
To vote, you must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, have lived in BC for at least six months before registration day and live on a Vancouver property or have one registered in your name at least 30 days before the election.
The ballot questions
In addition to choosing candidates, voters answer five questions.
Three capital plan questions ask whether the city should borrow $790 million to help pay for projects in the capital plan. These are yes-or-no questions that appear on the main ballot.
A second ballot carries two plebiscite questions. The first asks whether Vancouver should strengthen laws that forbid public hard drug use. The second asks whether portions of the old St. Paul's Hospital building should be converted into a secure medical facility for people who pose a risk to others because of severe substance use or mental health disorders.
These two plebiscite questions are separate from the capital plan questions and appear on a different ballot paper.
