Rob Nijjar appears on the City of Vancouver's final 2026 candidate list for School Board, with ballot number 316. The City records the affiliation as ABC Vancouver.
The page says Nijjar was an MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway, an executive assistant to a Vancouver MP, and an assistant to the Leader of the Official Opposition of BC. The page says Nijjar is Executive Director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association and runs a business development firm. The page says the candidate holds a Bachelor in General Studies and an MBA.
Elections BC's electoral history records Nijjar winning Vancouver-Kingsway for the British Columbia Liberal Party in the 2001 provincial election, with 8,264 votes against 5,429 for the New Democratic Party candidate. He sat in the legislature until the 2005 election.
Elections BC's records show he lost the seat in the 2005 provincial election to New Democratic Party candidate Adrian Dix, who took 10,038 votes against his 7,894.
CBC reported on May 20, 2025 that Nijjar is executive director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association and grew up in the Sunset neighbourhood of South Vancouver.
The Sunset on Fraser Business Association's own contact page lists Nijjar as its executive director, and the Vancouver Sun described him in that role in June 2026. The association's website gives its legal name as South Hill (Fraser St) Business Association, the same South Hill name the Wikipedia entry uses for the business association he joined after 2005.
The ABC Vancouver candidate page says Nijjar was co-chair of the legislature's standing committee for education and chaired a committee on youth employment and the government caucus committee on the economy. The Wikipedia entry says Nijjar served on the government caucus committee on the economy and chaired its sub-committee on youth employment. The legislature's own list of committee members for the 2004 session names him as a member of the Select Standing Committee on Education, with Richard Stewart as convener. That list names no deputy, so the co-chair title is still unconfirmed.
The party page says Nijjar holds a Bachelor in General Studies and an MBA. The Wikipedia entry says the General Studies degree was earned at Simon Fraser University in 1992.
The party page says Nijjar has served on the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal of BC, the Vancouver Planning Commission and the BC Transplant Society, has been involved with two Rotary clubs, coached the West Vancouver women's field hockey team and served as disciplinary chair of the Vancouver men's field hockey league. None of these was confirmed independently.

Support for bus lanes on 49th Avenue
In a video and quote that the transit riders' group Movement published, Nijjar, speaking as executive director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association, said a bus lane on 49th Avenue makes sense because he sees lineups a block long for the bus, and that it would help seniors reach Fraser Street shops and families reach community centres. Streets are a City matter, outside the School Board's powers.
Meeting Fraser Street business owners with Lisa Dominato
An Instagram post by ABC council candidate Lisa Dominato, with Nijjar's account listed as co-author, says they spent an afternoon talking with business owners and residents in the Fraser Street area and heard about roads and sidewalks, property taxes and small business.
On his Instagram account Nijjar wrote that he was out again visiting business owners and shoppers, and that he heard support for a government focused on public safety, fixing infrastructure, community amenities and keeping taxes at 0%. Those are City matters, and the post names no School Board measure.
