Entrenched fees and fundraising threaten the universal promise of schools
In a signed opinion piece for the Georgia Straight during the 2011 campaign, Giesbrecht argued that provincial underfunding had left Vancouver schools relying on parent fundraising and fees, and that the gap between a school raising 4,000 dollars and one raising 40,000 dollars creates unequal schooling.

Added the Park Board's own record of her term (commissioner from 2018 to 2022 and Committee Chair from 2018 to 2021), two Park Board motions she moved in 2020 and 2022, a 2020 Global News report quoting her as a commissioner, her 2014 Courier candidate profile, five School Board positions from COPE's 2026 platform recorded as party text, the endorsements of the Vancouver and District Labour Council and the Vancouver Secondary Teachers' Association, reports by Vancouver Is Awesome, Daily Hive and People's Voice, her social accounts from the City's candidate list, and the online forum on October 6. Corrections: the Committee Chair years now follow the Park Board's own list, 2018 to 2021, where VoteMate gives 2018 to 2022. The research notes said the School Board's current trustee list confirmed she had never been a trustee; a current list shows only who sits today, so the notes now say she is not a sitting trustee. The research notes said COPE had published no 2026 platform; COPE released it on September 28, 2026. The calendar listed the Grandview Woodland Area Council meeting for Park Board and School Board candidates on September 29, 2026, the date Women Transforming Cities gave; the organizer's own page gives Monday, September 28. That meeting and the October 3 advance voting day were removed from the calendar because both dates are before this review, and no source found shows whether she took part in the meeting.
Every commitment in this record was tagged for the score with a real source read on September 26, 2026. The support-for-neurodivergent-students pledge was rewritten: it had carried the explanatory sentence from a different VoteMate promise (on School Liaison Officers) instead of its own text. The VoteMate "Bullying & Bigotry" entry, previously recorded as one anti-racism-measures pledge, was split into three separate commitments (BC Human Rights Commission recommendations, support for students targeted by bullying, and Sexual and Gender Identity education and curriculum), because it stated three distinct policies in one place. Two commitments duplicated an earlier entry word for word (public-land-for-community-good and stable-funding-for-public-schools); both were removed and their content is carried by school-district-land-for-community-use and provincial-funding-for-public-schools, which cite the same COPE sentence.
