Mayor Ken Sim held a press conference on September 14, 2026 naming Qiu as ABC Vancouver's candidate for Park Board commissioner. Sing Tao's Chinese-language report quotes Qiu directly, saying she wants Vancouver's parks and recreation facilities to stay safe, clean, convenient, affordable and open to everyone, and ready to serve the next generation.
In the same Sing Tao report, Qiu said that as a mother who raised three children in Vancouver, she knows how important safe, clean, convenient and affordable parks and recreation facilities are to families, and that if elected she would focus on park and facility upkeep, public safety, more recreation chances for children and young people, support for seniors and families, protecting green space, and using taxpayer money well.
Asked by Sing Tao whether ABC Vancouver running seven candidates for the Park Board's seven seats shows the party values the board, Qiu said the board's operating problems matter more than whether it should exist, and that she could accept a provincial decision to end the board if that decision came after long consideration. She also said the Park Board working closely with City Hall could work out well for both sides.
theBreaker and Vancouver Is Awesome, in reporting on the Vancouver mayor's political staff published in December 2022, independently confirm that Qiu held the Director of Outreach role in the mayor's office. The same reporting says Qiu was a 12th place NPA candidate for Vancouver school board in 2018, and that five years before the December 2022 report was published, according to that report, Qiu was the spokesperson for the Marpole Residents Coalition, which opposed a 78 suite temporary modular housing project at 59th Avenue and Heather Street.
