A new poll puts Green Party mayoral candidate Pete Fry one point ahead of incumbent Ken Sim in the race for Vancouver mayor, with eight days until election day.

CityNews Vancouver reported Friday that Canada Pulse Insights surveyed 500 adult Vancouver residents online between September 28 and October 6. The poll was done exclusively for CityNews and OMNI TV.

Among all respondents, Fry leads with 28 per cent and Sim follows with 27 per cent. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, which means the one-point gap does not clear the poll's own measure of precision.

Among decided voters, the margin holds

Among respondents who said they would definitely vote or had already cast a ballot in advance voting, the result was nearly the same: Fry at 29 per cent and Sim at 28 per cent, CityNews reported.

Canada Pulse Insights CEO John Wright told CityNews the race had "two different streams going head-to-head," with voters supporting each candidate holding different priorities. He said he expected Thanksgiving weekend conversations to help the 10 per cent of respondents who remained undecided make up their minds before they cast their ballots.

How this compares to 2022

Ken Sim won the 2022 Vancouver mayoral election with just over 50 per cent of the vote, according to CityNews. The 2026 race has more candidates on the ballot, and the vote is distributed across a larger field.
