The Vancouver Police Department is investigating a suspected arson fire that damaged multiple ABC Vancouver campaign signs at a campaign volunteer's home, Daily Hive Vancouver reported on October 7, 2026. VPD confirmed it received a report on October 6 of "campaign signs damaged by what they say is a 'suspected arson fire.'"

The incident happened sometime between the evening of Monday, October 5 and early Tuesday morning, October 6, according to the report. The volunteer, whose name Daily Hive withheld for safety reasons, discovered the damage when he woke up that morning. One large sign showed a burned opening along its lower edge with blackened material surrounding it, exposing the wood underneath. Multiple signs had been stacked against the exterior wall of the property.

The volunteer said the fire could have spread further. "I can go around and fix them or replace them," he told Daily Hive. "But to light them on fire, I just can't imagine that people think this is a good idea."

What police are doing

Officers from the VPD interviewed the volunteer and forensic identification officers processed evidence at the scene. Police seized one of the damaged signs for fingerprinting. VPD is also seeking security footage from the property's surveillance camera and from the surrounding area to assist the investigation. As of the time of the Daily Hive report, police had not identified a suspect or confirmed a motive.

Daily Hive also documented other vandalism of ABC Vancouver signs across Vancouver, including graffiti on signs at other locations.

No statement from ABC Vancouver or the Ken Sim campaign was included in the report. ABC Vancouver is the party of incumbent Mayor Ken Sim, who is seeking re-election on October 17.
