Responsible development, two stairwells in new condominiums and a new heritage inventory
One Delta's platform promises development focused on families, first-time buyers and seniors, an Official Community Plan update in the next term through the Province's five-year rule, a requirement for two stairwells in new multi-storey buildings, an update of the heritage inventory, the return of the Heritage Advisory Commission and Advisory Design Panel, stronger design guidelines, and protection of farmland and the tree canopy. It gives no number of homes and no costs.
HOUSING AND ZONING
One Delta on housing
The platform promises to prioritize responsible development and housing with a focus on families, first-time home buyers and seniors. It says One Delta supports the Province's requirement to update the Official Community Plan every five years and looks forward to that consultation in the next term.
On building safety, the platform promises to fight provincial changes that weaken the requirement for two independent exits in multi-storey residential buildings and to keep that requirement in Delta's own bylaws.
On neighbourhood character, the platform promises to update Delta's heritage inventory, which it says has not been updated in over 25 years, to bring back the Heritage Advisory Commission and Advisory Design Panel, and to strengthen design guidelines, possibly for each town core in North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. On farmland, it promises to keep farmland for farming, to stop illegal farm buildings and to enforce the City's land use powers against development. On trees, it promises neighbourhood-led tree protection built on a pilot program in Sunshine Hills and more enforcement.
