Citizen committees, recorded votes and a ban on patronage hiring
One Delta's platform promises to restore citizen-led committees, to publish how each councillor votes on each item, public timelines for development applications, competitive hiring with no patronage appointments, no extra pay for regional board seats, and the mayor's return to the Delta Police Board. It also asks the Province for an auditor general for local government and a smaller elected council over Metro Vancouver, TransLink and E-Comm.
HOW THE CITY IS GOVERNED
One Delta on governance
The accountability part of the platform promises to restore citizen-led committees, naming the Delta Heritage Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Design Advisory Panel. It promises to record each councillor's vote on each agenda item in the published minutes, and transparent tracking and timelines for development and planning applications.
The platform promises public, competitive hiring with no patronage appointments, and that One Delta elected officials appointed to Metro Vancouver would take no stipend or honorarium beyond their municipal salary. It says the mayor would sit on the Delta Police Board; it says Mayor Harvie stepped down from that board, which is the organization's own account.
On the region, the platform supports an auditor general for local government or a wider mandate for BC's Auditor General, an independent core services review of Metro Vancouver within 90 days, a full independent review of the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant, and a smaller, directly elected regional council of mayors with a Tsawwassen First Nation representative to oversee Metro Vancouver, TransLink and E-Comm. Those changes would need the Province.
