Protect the classroom, plan three years ahead and make the trip to school safer
Achieving for Delta's school trustee platform has three parts: the classroom, the budget and the community. It promises early help for reading, writing and math, support for diverse learners, protection of classroom spending when budgets are tight, three-year financial planning, cost sharing with the City, and safer routes to school. The North Delta Reporter reported added commitments to literacy screening for all elementary students and a freeze on district rental and facility fees for 2026/27.
SCHOOLS AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Achieving for Delta on schools
In the Classroom, the platform promises to identify learning gaps early, to get students the right support at the right time, and to strengthen accessibility and support for diverse learners. The North Delta Reporter reported on September 22, 2026 that the organization's release added literacy screening for all elementary students, expansion of the Math Minds program to all elementary schools, an annual review of staff ratios for diverse learners, and funding of the district's Justice and Equity Action Plan and Accessibility Plan.
In the Budget, the platform promises to look for efficiencies across the district while protecting teachers, education assistants, student services and classroom resources, to manage reserves carefully, to strengthen three-year financial planning, and to share costs with the City of Delta and other governments. The Reporter reported added commitments to zero-based budgeting at least once per term and a freeze on school district rental and facility fees for 2026/27.
In the Community, the platform promises to work with the City and other partners on crossings and sidewalks near schools, and open budget discussions and clear reporting. The Reporter reported a commitment to seek a trustee seat on Council's Transportation Advisory Committee. Two of its seven trustee candidates, Erica Beard and Joe Muego, were elected.
