Press the Province for new schools, keep the SOGI policy, and grow school meals
The BCA's platform asks the Ministry of Education to build schools for the number of students expected, names five school projects, and promises to ask for stable funding, keep the district's SOGI policy, set rules for artificial intelligence (AI) in schools and grow the school meals program. It gives no costs.
SCHOOLS AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
BCA - Burnaby Citizens Association on schools
The school points are the platform's third commitment, "Fighting for the world-class public schools our students deserve". The BCA ran seven candidates for the Board of Education, and all seven were elected.
Many of the points are requests to other governments: the platform says the BCA will press the Ministry of Education to build for projected enrolment and to fund learning supports, and will press Ottawa to keep funding Settlement Workers in Schools.
SOGI stands for sexual orientation and gender identity. The platform calls the district's SOGI policy an anti-bullying policy and promises to keep it strong.
The platform lists past work it says BCA trustees delivered, among them new schools at Burnaby North Secondary and Stride Avenue and more than 700 new childcare spaces in eight years. That is the party's own account.
