At least 1,000 new rental homes through the Burnaby Housing Authority by 2030
The BCA's 2026 platform promises to start at least 1,000 new rental homes through the Burnaby Housing Authority by 2030, to build more affordable homes with non-profits and co-ops, to use City land for family homes, and to zone town centres for shops and cafés at street level. It gives no costs.
HOUSING AND ZONING
BCA - Burnaby Citizens Association on housing
The housing points are in the platform's second commitment, under the heading "Building homes people can afford". The two zoning points are under "Supporting small businesses and local jobs". The platform gives no costs and no list of sites.
The platform says the BCA created the Burnaby Housing Authority, which it calls the first of its kind in Metro Vancouver, to build, own and manage non-market rental and ownership homes. That is the party's own account. Burnaby Now reported that Council voted 6 to 3 in April 2024 to incorporate the authority, and that two BCA councillors, Pietro Calendino and Sav Dhaliwal, were among the three who wanted to delay it.
