History and past elections
Brodie and Armstrong elected as Conservatives
Dallas Brodie won Vancouver-Quilchena for the Conservative Party with 11,464 votes (51.58 percent). Tara Armstrong won Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream for the Conservative Party with 14,303 votes (53.92 percent). OneBC did not yet exist.
Brodie removed from the Conservative caucus, March 2025
Conservative leader John Rustad removed Brodie from caucus over podcast comments that he said mocked residential school survivors. Brodie denied mocking survivors and told CBC News she had been mocking what she called post-modern, woke culture. Armstrong and Jordan Kealy left the Conservatives after her removal.
OneBC launched
Brodie and Armstrong announced the party, with Brodie as interim leader and Armstrong as house leader. Jordan Kealy did not join. The party’s first financial report covers a period that starts on 2025-06-09.
Land acknowledgement bill defeated
The legislature defeated Brodie’s Land Acknowledgement Prohibition Act at first reading, 5 to 85.
Board says it removed Brodie as leader
The party posted a resolution signed by three of four board members, Tim Thielmann, Paul Ratchford and Tara Armstrong, removing Brodie as interim leader. A party post on X accused people acting for Brodie of trying to take control of party systems without permission. Brodie said the dispute began when she tried to fire a staffer over comments she called incompatible with her values, and said she still considered herself leader.
Official party status lost, December 2025
CBC News reported on 2025-12-17 that Armstrong had written to the Speaker to say she would not caucus with Brodie, and that both would sit as Independents. A party needs at least two members to have official status in the legislature.
Brodie says she has regained control
In a social media post, Brodie wrote that after negotiations she had regained control of the party and was its leader again. Armstrong said she stood by her choice to sit as an Independent.
Recall petition issued against Brodie
Elections BC issued a recall petition in Vancouver-Quilchena with Brodie as its subject. It needed 15,232 signatures by 2026-07-20.
Recall petition fails
Elections BC said the petition failed, with just under 3,700 signatures handed in.
Chapman announces move as election is called
Surrey South MLA Brent Chapman announced on X that he was leaving the Conservatives for OneBC, shortly before the election was called. The clerk’s office said the party standings did not change, and the legislature still lists him as a Conservative.
