Eighteen candidates are running for the Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth council seat in Toronto's 2026 municipal election, including Dianne Saxe, Mary Fragedakis, and Sara Ehrhardt. CityNews Toronto reported on the race on October 12.

The ward covers the area from the Don Valley Parkway to Coxwell Avenue and from Lake Ontario to O'Connor Drive, including Riverdale, Leslieville, and the Danforth.

Saxe enters at the last minute

Saxe had been the incumbent councillor in University-Rosedale. CityNews Toronto reported she switched to Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth just before the registration deadline closed, after Mike Layton entered the University-Rosedale race at the last minute.

"One of the key skills any good lawyer has to have is to know when to fight and when to pivot," Saxe told CityNews.

Saxe, a former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, told CityNews she sees Ward 14 as suited to her background. She pointed to the potential for housing along Ontario Line stations in the ward.

"There's an opportunity for 20,000 or more new homes in those areas in the next few years," Saxe told CityNews, describing those as her own figures for the potential from the Portlands development and transit-oriented communities. "It's a generational opportunity."

Fragedakis and Ehrhardt

Mary Fragedakis represented a portion of Ward 14 from 2010 to 2018, before boundary changes. CityNews Toronto reported she ran against then-councillor Paula Fletcher in 2018 and lost by over 6,000 votes. Fragedakis told CityNews her priorities include transit reliability, traffic, safety in public spaces, and local economic pressures.

Sara Ehrhardt, a former Toronto District School Board trustee, was endorsed by Fletcher after Fletcher withdrew from the race two days before candidate nominations closed. Ehrhardt told CityNews she would focus on road safety during Ontario Line construction in the ward.

Fletcher had represented Ward 14 since 2003.
