01 / Introduction
About Sonny Yeung
Sonny Yeung appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Toronto District School Board in Ward 9. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as June 19, 2026. Ward 9 covers Don Valley North and Scarborough-Agincourt.
In his Know Your Vote T.O. answers he says he attended public schools and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a minor in Finance, and he sets out views on bullying policy, class sizes, staffing and programs. Those are his own words, and voche.me found no second source for his education. The page gives no occupation or past public role.

01
Academic achievement
In his Know Your Vote T.O. answer he says his first priority is academic achievement, aimed at students who go on to university or college, and says he went through public schools and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a minor in Finance.
He says he would update board policies on bullying, would try to de-escalate and call the police if necessary, and says the board will try to develop a policy on large technology companies and artificial intelligence.
He says he supports smaller classes and more teachers and educational assistants, and he says provincial funding for education has been too low and criticises the provincial Conservative government.
He lists special education first, language programs second and the arts third, and says he would promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning and financial literacy.
Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, his Know Your Vote T.O. page with his four answers, the City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results, the TDSB’s 2018 to 2022 trustee list, the TDSB’s trustee wards page and the board and City records listed below. The Know Your Vote T.O. page says candidates write their own responses and that the project does not check whether they are true. His priorities and his education are attributed to him for that reason. His page also quotes funding figures and criticises the provincial government, and voche.me did not check those figures.
TDSB wards changed for 2026. Ward 9 covers City wards 17 and 22, which the City’s list names Don Valley North and Scarborough-Agincourt. The TDSB’s 2018 to 2022 trustee list names the old Ward 13 as Don Valley North and the old Ward 20 as Scarborough-Agincourt. The City Clerk’s 2022 results show James Li elected in the old Ward 13 and Manna Wong elected in the old Ward 20. A TDSB letter for 2023-24 is signed by Manna Wong as trustee for the old Ward 20, and James Li’s own website carries a September 2026 letter in which he says he will conclude his service as Don Valley North trustee at the end of this term. Those seats belong to the old wards and are not treated as seats in the new Ward 9. The TDSB’s trustee wards page says that during provincial supervision the powers of trustees rest with the provincially appointed Supervisor, that trustees have no official duties with the board at this time, and that this also applies to trustees elected in October 2026. The TDSB’s news item of March 18, 2025 says the board’s current term ends on November 14, 2026. The City Clerk’s 2022 results and the City’s March 2025 by-election results for another school ward list entries under the name Sonny Yeung. No source voche.me opened ties either entry to this candidate. The same name alone is not enough, so no past result is attributed to him.
