About Matthew Zaffino

Matthew Zaffino appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Toronto District School Board in Ward 2. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 28, 2026 and the campaign website matthewzaffino.ca.

His campaign website says he attended four Etobicoke TDSB schools (Lambton-Kingsway Junior Middle School, Broadacres Junior Public School, John G. Althouse Middle School and Martingrove Collegiate Institute), holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a graduate diploma in accounting, is a CPA, CA with over 7 years as a Controller or Director of Finance, and is a former director of the charity Hand Up From Hunger Toronto and a co-founder of BOGOShield Social Enterprise. These are the campaign’s own statements, and voche.me did not check them with the schools, the accounting body or the organizations.

TDSB wards changed for 2026. The Etobicoke Voice reports that Etobicoke Centre and Etobicoke-Lakeshore now form one trustee ward, the new TDSB Ward 2. The City Clerk’s 2022 results show Dan MacLean elected in the 2022 Ward 2, and The Etobicoke Voice calls him the current Etobicoke Centre trustee and reports that he said in an online post that he will not seek re-election. voche.me did not read that post. None of the three candidates in the new Ward 2 appears in the Toronto District School Board results of the 2022 declaration. The TDSB’s trustee wards page says that during provincial supervision the powers of trustees rest with the provincially appointed Supervisor, that trustees have no official duties with the board at this time, and that this also applies to trustees elected in October 2026.

The website’s footer says AI was used to help design, edit and set up the site and in the policy research process.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, the home page of his campaign website, The Etobicoke Voice’s one-month review of nominations and its article of September 24, 2026, the City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results, The Local’s trustee analysis of August 24, 2026 and the TDSB’s trustee wards page. He holds no trustee or other public role on any record opened. Every statement taken from his campaign website is written as the campaign’s own account.

Gaps. The website’s Trustee Role, For Educators and For Parents entries were read as sections of the home page, and no longer pages were opened. The site also mentions his children, which is left out of this record. His Instagram and Facebook pages returned no readable posts. The questionnaire has not been sent.
