Gus Stefanis appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Toronto District School Board in Ward 5. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 21, 2026 and a campaign website, a Google Sites page titled Gus4Trustee.
His website says he believes in traditional values and the authority of parents over the education system. It calls for flags at schools to be limited to the national and provincial flags, for the removal of political and ideological influences from classrooms, for repeal of Ontario’s sex education curriculum, for parents to be able to opt out of high-school sex education and all gender identity instruction, and for a ban on critical race theory teaching. Those are his campaign’s statements. His website describes the Ward 5 area as Toronto-Danforth, Spadina-Fort York and Toronto Centre, while the City’s Ward 5 covers City wards 10 and 14.
He was a candidate in the March 3, 2025 by-election for Toronto District School Board Ward 11 (Don Valley West), a vote held to fill a vacant seat between regular elections. The City Clerk’s declaration of results lists Gus Stefanis with 110 votes, eighth of 10 candidates. The 10 declared totals add up to 4,591 votes, so his share was 2.4 percent, calculated by voche.me from those figures. Stacey Cline won with 2,360 votes. The Leaside Life candidate guide for that by-election describes him as a self-described concerned parent who is a consultant and project manager, and gives the same website address as his 2026 website, which ties the result to this candidate.
TDSB wards changed for 2026. Ward 5 covers City wards 10 (Spadina-Fort York) and 14 (Toronto-Danforth). The City Clerk’s declaration of results for October 24, 2022 shows Alexis Dawson elected in the old Ward 9 and Sara Ehrhardt elected in the old Ward 15, and the TDSB’s trustee list for 2018 to 2022 names the old Ward 9 as Davenport and Spadina-Fort York and the old Ward 15 as Toronto-Danforth. Those results belong to the old wards and are not treated as results for the new Ward 5. The TDSB’s trustee wards page says that during provincial supervision the powers of trustees rest with the provincially appointed Supervisor, that trustees have no official duties with the board at this time, and that this also applies to trustees elected in October 2026.
