About Bill Wu

Bill Wu appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Toronto District School Board in Ward 9. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 20, 2026 and a campaign website, yongwu.ca. Ward 9 covers Don Valley North and Scarborough-Agincourt.

His campaign website says he has lived in Ward 9 for 20 years, has coached youth sports for more than 15 years and majored in electrical engineering, and that he decided to run after what he saw while volunteering as a youth basketball coach. It calls him “a coach, an ordinary person”. Those are the campaign’s own statements, and voche.me found no second source for them.

The City Clerk’s 2022 results list a Bill Wu as a candidate for City Councillor in Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt. The Local’s 2022 profile of that candidate describes a coach at the Toronto Chinese Sports Club with an electrical engineering background, and the 2026 website describes the same coaching and engineering background.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, his campaign website, his Know Your Vote T.O. page, The Local’s 2022 profile, the City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results, the TDSB’s 2018 to 2022 trustee list, the TDSB’s trustee wards page and the board records listed below. The website is the campaign’s own statement. His residence, coaching and engineering claims are attributed to it in the sentences that carry them.

The 2022 result is for a City Council race in Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt, which is a different office from school board trustee. The City Clerk’s entry reads “Bill Wu”. A named source ties it to him in this way: The Local’s profile of that candidate describes a coach at the Toronto Chinese Sports Club with an electrical engineering background, and his 2026 website says he is a youth sports coach who majored in electrical engineering. Neither page states the link in one sentence. TDSB wards changed for 2026. Ward 9 covers City wards 17 and 22, which the City’s list names Don Valley North and Scarborough-Agincourt. The TDSB’s 2018 to 2022 trustee list names the old Ward 13 as Don Valley North and the old Ward 20 as Scarborough-Agincourt. The City Clerk’s 2022 results show James Li elected in the old Ward 13 and Manna Wong elected in the old Ward 20. A TDSB letter for 2023-24 is signed by Manna Wong as trustee for the old Ward 20, and James Li’s own website carries a September 2026 letter in which he says he will conclude his service as Don Valley North trustee at the end of this term. Those seats belong to the old wards and are not treated as seats in the new Ward 9. The TDSB’s trustee wards page says that during provincial supervision the powers of trustees rest with the provincially appointed Supervisor, that trustees have no official duties with the board at this time, and that this also applies to trustees elected in October 2026. The TDSB’s news item of March 18, 2025 says the board’s current term ends on November 14, 2026.

Gaps. His Know Your Vote T.O. page lists his website only, and its four questions are marked “Awaiting submission”. The site links no social account for him. His claim of 20 years in the ward and his coaching history have no second source. His website lists causes and gives no detail on how he would act on them. No board minutes apply. The questionnaire has not been sent.
