01 / Introduction
About Todd Schierling
Elections BC lists Todd Schierling as the BC NDP candidate in Delta North. The BC NDP announced him as its candidate on September 26, 2026, according to the North Delta Reporter. The paper reports that the outgoing MLA, Ravi Kahlon, endorsed him in a social media post.
Kahlon won Delta North in 2024 for the BC NDP with 10,988 votes (52.73 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Todd Schierling was not a candidate in 2024.
BC's Municipal Pension Plan lists him as a trustee on its board, appointed by the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Association and the BC Police Association. Its profile says he became president of the fire fighters' association in June 2023, after serving as its secretary-treasurer from 2016 to 2023, and that he has worked for Surrey Fire Service since 1996 as a captain. The association's report on its June 2025 convention says he was acclaimed as president again.
The association's own page about him says he has been a field service representative for the International Association of Fire Fighters since 2018, and that in 2025 that union named him to a national advisory group on firefighter cancer research. His campaign page and the association both say he helped start a girls' high school basketball tournament in Surrey in 2001 that has given more than $125,000 in bursaries. voche.me has not checked these claims with the bodies named.
As association president he has spoken in support of wider workers' compensation coverage for firefighters with cancer, in a 2024 BC NDP campaign release and in a March 2026 provincial government release.

Stand up for Canadian jobs
Said in the party release announcing his candidacy that the US trade dispute is putting pressure on families and workers in Delta, and that Canadian jobs need to be protected, along with public services and investment in local communities.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
The words are from a BC NDP release quoted by the North Delta Reporter and the Delta Optimist. voche.me could not open the release itself. The statement names no program, no number of jobs, no cost and no date.
What still needs checking
Which provincial measures would he support to protect jobs in Delta North, and at what cost?
His past roles come from the Municipal Pension Plan, the provincial lobbyists registry and his own association. The dated actions below are association work and a government decision, and they earn no score.
Announced by the Province; the release says the changes take effect once cabinet approves them
Province adds eight cancers to firefighter coverage
The Ministry of Labour announced that eight cancers would be added to the workers' compensation list for firefighters, and that the work period needed for esophageal cancer would fall from 20 years to 15. The release quotes him as association president welcoming the change.
Scope, limits and sources
This is a government decision. The release quotes him as an advocate, and the lobbyists registry lists him as the senior officer of the association that lobbied for more cancers on the list. A union role is no public office, so this entry earns no score.
The association's media advisory lists MPs, MLAs and city councillors taking part in firefighting training scenarios in Vancouver, and quotes him as its president and media contact.
Scope, limits and sources
The advisory announces the event before it happened. No report of the day itself was read, and organizing an event earns no score.

Statement
Statement on his candidacy
In the party release announcing him, quoted by two local papers, he named the US trade dispute as his reason for running and said he has served the community for nearly 30 years.
Quoted by the IAFF after the 2024 election. He said all three main parties had shown support for firefighter issues, and the article says the association endorsed no party.
Quoted in a 2024 BC NDP release on cancer coverage
As association president, he welcomed the BC NDP's 2024 promise to cover all cancer types for firefighters. This was before his own candidacy and is not counted as a 2026 commitment.
Records are labelled by type, including official findings, civil proceedings and political disputes where applicable. Each entry identifies the response found in the sources and the latest status verified for this page.
No reviewed entries have been added to this section yet. This is a research gap, not a finding about the candidate.

BC Professional Fire Fighters' Association · September 13, 2026
The BC NDP release of September 26, 2026 that announced him could not be found on the party's site, so his statement is taken from the North Delta Reporter and the Delta Optimist, which quote it. His campaign page and the party's team page hold no commitments. His Facebook page and Instagram account could not be read without signing in, so no post from them is used. Search results also name an X account, @ToddSchierling, which returned a not-found page on 2026-09-30. LinkedIn profiles under his name were not read, because LinkedIn needs a sign-in. His work at Surrey Fire Service, his IAFF roles, his 2025 appointment to a national cancer research group and his medals and awards are stated by his association and his campaign; voche.me has not checked them with Surrey, the IAFF, McMaster University or the bodies that gave the awards. His plans for housing, health care, schools, transit, climate, reconciliation and the provincial budget, any all-candidates meeting in Delta North in 2026, campaign finances and endorsements beyond Ravi Kahlon's were not found on this date.
