01 / Introduction
About Mable Elmore
Mable Elmore is the BC NDP candidate in Vancouver-Kensington on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. She is the only accepted candidate in the district on the copy of the list stamped October 1, 2026 11:00:06 PM. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026.
She won the district in 2024 with 11,713 votes, 60.90% of the valid vote, according to the Elections BC statement of votes. Syed Mohsin of the Conservative Party had 6,061 votes and Amy Fox of the BC Green Party had 1,458.
The legislature record lists her election years as 2009, 2013, 2017, 2020 and 2024, all in Vancouver-Kensington, and lists no cabinet role for her. The House appointed her Deputy Speaker on February 18, 2025, and again for the new session on February 12, 2026.
Government releases name her Parliamentary Secretary for Poverty Reduction in the cabinet of July 18, 2017, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors Services and Long-Term Care in the cabinet of November 26, 2020, and Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives in the cabinet of December 7, 2022. Her member page on the legislature site lists these as past roles.
Her speeches in the legislature in 2026 were statements about her district: local news, the 100th year of Memorial South Park, a local business, environmental activists, and the first anniversary of the Lapu-Lapu Day attack. On April 30, 2026, as Chair of a special committee, she presented its review of the Human Rights Code sections on the Human Rights Commissioner, and the House adopted the report.
News reports in March and April 2026 quote her asking for a pause of the 2026 Lapu-Lapu Day festival and asking groups funded after the 2025 attack to return unspent donations to survivors and families. The Canadian Press reports that she became the first MLA of Filipino heritage in British Columbia in 2009.

Report adopted by the House
Presented the Human Rights Code review report as committee Chair

Scope, limits and sources
She told the House the committee found these sections are working and made a small number of recommendations: to make access to information clearer, to protect people who take part in an inquiry, and to make any future human rights advisory council represent people across B.C. voche.me did not open the report itself.
The House approved a motion by Mike Farnworth that Elmore be Deputy Speaker for the session. A motion of February 18, 2025 had appointed her for the first session.

Policy dispute
Dispute over the Filipino Cultural Centre proposal
CBC News reported on December 10, 2025 that Elmore supported a Filipino Cultural Centre proposal by the Filipino Legacy Society, backed by the Mayor of Vancouver, while other groups, including Filipino B.C., opposed it. CBC reported that she sent text messages to Filipino B.C. board members saying the group's relationship with the City was at risk, after the group criticized a City memorial concert. The chair of Filipino B.C., RJ Aquino, and a former board member gave CBC their account of the split.
Candidate or party response
CBC reports that Elmore said the two matters were not connected, that she gives advice to many Filipino groups, and that the Filipino Legacy Society proposal was the only one ready to come before City Council. She did not comment directly on the text messages.
Verified status and limits
No official finding. CBC reported that a Vancouver City Council vote on working with the Filipino Legacy Society was set for December 10, 2025. voche.me did not open the City record of that vote.
Meal payments claimed during a 2017 welfare food challenge

Candidate or party response
Elmore said staff submitted the payments as a matter of course, that she did not spend the money on food, and that she would return the $244.
