01 / Introduction
About Darryl Walker
Elections BC lists Darryl Walker as the BC NDP candidate for MLA in Surrey-White Rock, on its candidate list stamped October 3, 2026 5:00:07 PM. Nominations could be submitted until 1 p.m. that day. The other accepted candidates in the district are Kevin Diakiw (Independent), Trevor Halford (Conservative Party), Amanda James (OneBC) and Christine Kinnie (BC Green Party). Halford is the sitting member for the district.
Surrey Now-Leader reported on August 5, 2024 that Walker won the BC NDP nomination in Surrey-White Rock and was mayor of White Rock from 2018 to 2022, and that he is a past president of the BC General Employees' Union. Both points come from a BC NDP release that the newspaper summarized, so they are the party's account. Later reports in the same newspaper name him as White Rock's mayor in 2019, 2021 and 2022. On October 15, 2022 Megan Knight beat him in the White Rock mayoral election, 2,001 votes to 1,811.
In the 2024 provincial election Walker finished second in Surrey-White Rock with 12,698 votes (45.29 percent). Trevor Halford of the Conservative Party won with 14,667 votes (52.31 percent), and Damyn Tassie of the Libertarian Party received 671 (2.39 percent). Surrey Now-Leader's September 28, 2026 election guide says Halford beat Walker in 2024 and that Walker returns as the NDP candidate. That report is the link between the 2024 and 2026 candidacies.
In a Peace Arch News questionnaire in October 2024, Walker described himself in his own words as a White Rock resident since 1970 who worked 40 years at Riverview and the Forensic Institute and who was president of the BCGEU. voche.me did not find an independent record of the union role or the career, so they are his account. For 2026, a BC NDP release of October 1, as quoted by Surrey Now-Leader, gives his reason for running as helping to build affordable homes, strengthen public health care and protect services for families. voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

What still needs checking
Does Walker name a housing measure, a target or a date during the campaign?
Surrey Now-Leader quotes the same release, in which Walker says he is running to strengthen public health care and protect the services families count on. The quote names no hospital, no measure and no date.

Does Walker name a health care measure for Surrey-White Rock, such as doctors or emergency care at Peace Arch Hospital?
The BC NDP platform page says David Eby's housing plan has eliminated local zoning barriers to build 300,000 more middle-class homes, and that 97% of local governments have adopted zoning changes. The page does not name Walker.

What still needs checking
Does Walker repeat or add to the party's housing position in the district?
The BC NDP platform page says the party will keep recruiting and training more doctors, nurses and healthcare workers of all kinds. The page does not name Walker.

What still needs checking
Does Walker say how the party's health care plan applies to Peace Arch Hospital and the district?
Walker was mayor of White Rock, a city council role. The 43rd Parliament member record lists no member named Walker for this district, so no legislature speech or vote record applies. The entries below show his statements as mayor, taken from Surrey Now-Leader reports. voche.me did not open the White Rock council minutes for 2018 to 2022, so no council vote is attributed to him.
No reviewed entries have been added to this section yet. This is a research gap, not a finding about the candidate.

New B.C. election candidates announced for Surrey-White Rock
Names Walker as the BC NDP candidate with Halford, Kinnie and Diakiw, repeats the 2024 result (52.3 and 45.3 percent) and quotes Walker's statement from a BC NDP release of Thursday, October 1.
Prints the candidates' questionnaire answers as received. Walker lists housing, support for seniors, and mental health and addictions as his top three issues.
Former White Rock mayor will run for BC NDP in fall election
Reports that Walker won the BC NDP nomination, and summarizes a party release on his past roles as BCGEU president and White Rock mayor from 2018 to 2022.
Sources checked October 3, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
No campaign website of his own was found: the address darrylwalker.bcndp.ca sends the reader to the party's Surrey-White Rock page, which carries David Eby's name and the line "We're David Eby's team here in Surrey-White Rock". No social media account that a party page or his own page links to was found, so none is used. The BC NDP release of October 1, 2026 that Surrey Now-Leader quotes was not found on the party's releases page, so only the newspaper's quotation is used. Two parts of his background, the BCGEU presidency (with no dates) and 40 years at Riverview and the Forensic Institute, come from the BC NDP release as summarized in 2024 and his own 2024 questionnaire answer, with no union or employer record opened. The 2018 start of his mayoral term comes from the same release. The White Rock council minutes and the 2024 campaign finance report were not opened. Surrey Now-Leader's October 2, 2026 article says Halford beat Walker in the '2024 civic election'. The Elections BC statement of votes shows it was the 2024 provincial election, and the record uses the statement of votes. Positions on public safety, education, climate, transportation, taxes and governance are unknown. No portrait was found that the candidate or the party published. All-candidates meetings, endorsements and campaign finances for 2026 were not found on this date. The questionnaire has not been sent.
Research status
What voche.me has checked
Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list (stamp October 3, 2026 5:00:07 PM) and key dates page, the 2024 statement of votes, the BC NDP Surrey-White Rock page and platform page, and nine Surrey Now-Leader and Peace Arch News reports from 2019 to 2026. The reports include the 2026 articles that name him as the NDP candidate and quote his statement, the 2024 nomination report and his 2024 questionnaire answers.
The name search was limited. The WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit, so voche.me read the site searches of Surrey Now-Leader, Peace Arch News, the BCGEU and the BC NDP, a Google News feed and the pages those results named. General web search pages returned unrelated pages for his name. No campaign website of his own, social media account tied to this candidacy, or party candidate page was found. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date, and it leaves open what the candidate has said elsewhere.
