Seven federal Liberal MPs now support Brad Bradford's campaign for Toronto mayor, after three more announced their backing since the weekend, CityNews Toronto reported on October 5.

Vince Gasparro, the MP for Eglinton-Lawrence, Leslie Church, the MP for Toronto-St. Paul's, and Ali Ehsassi, the MP for Willowdale, all declared their support for Bradford over the weekend and on Monday. Campaign videos featuring each of the three MPs were shared on Bradford's social media accounts on Sunday and Monday.

They join four other Liberal MPs who had already signalled support for Bradford: Jennifer McKelvie (Ajax), Judy Sgro (Humber River-Black Creek), James Maloney (Etobicoke-Lakeshore) and Yvan Baker (Etobicoke Centre), according to CityNews Toronto.

Bradford has also received backing from Conservative MP Scott Aitchison, Ontario Liberal MPP Stephanie Smyth and York Centre City Councillor James Pasternak, the outlet reported.

What the MPs said

Church described Bradford as "somebody who shows up for midtown Toronto and has been there every step of the way." She also said she wants "a great city for all our kids when they grow up, with affordable housing, transit and child care," and cited Bradford's positions on those issues as reasons for her support.

Ehsassi called Bradford "a serious, hardworking leader with a track record of getting things done for the people of this city."

Gasparro said he has known Bradford since 2018, when Gasparro worked as Principal Secretary to then-Mayor John Tory, and described Bradford's focus on economic growth, public safety and affordability as reasons for his support.

Bradford's response

"Leslie, Vince and Ali each spend their days fighting for Toronto in Ottawa, and they know what this city needs from its next mayor: a partner who shows up, gets the basics right and gets things built," Bradford said, according to CityNews Toronto. "I'm grateful for their support."

Bradford also said the city is ready for change and that a new mayor is necessary to achieve it.
