Ted Opitz appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as June 9, 2026 and the campaign website tedopitz.ca.
The House of Commons record for Ted Opitz lists him as Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre, in Ontario, from May 2, 2011 to October 18, 2015, and says he is no longer a Member of Parliament. It lists his political affiliation in the 41st Parliament as Conservative, and his committee seats as Veterans Affairs, Procedure and House Affairs, Citizenship and Immigration, and National Defence. Municipal candidates in Ontario have no party, and his 2026 candidacy carries none.
His campaign website says he served 33 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired as a Lieutenant-Colonel, was Operations Officer for World Youth Day 2002, and most recently chaired the Board of Copernicus Lodge. It says he was raised in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood. These are the campaign’s own statements, and voche.me has not checked the military, event or board roles against another source.
The Local, in a candidate page updated as of September 21, 2026, says he won his federal seat in 2011 by 26 votes, lost it in 2015, and ran again for the Conservatives in the same riding in 2025, placing second to Liberal Yvan Baker. voche.me did not check those results with Elections Canada. Global News, in an article posted August 25, 2026, describes him as a former Conservative MP and says he will likely try to gain support from local backlash to a new seniors’ shelter in the ward. No statement from him on the shelter was found.
