About Sharmina Nasrin

Sharmina Nasrin appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 20 Scarborough Southwest. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as June 1, 2026 and the campaign website sharminanasrin.ca.

The Local’s candidate tracker, written by that outlet’s journalists, says she describes herself as a former public servant. Citing her LinkedIn page, it says she worked as a constituency assistant to MPP Lorne Coe. It also says that in March she sought the Ontario Liberal nomination for the provincial by-election in Scarborough Southwest, withdrew before the vote and later supported Ahsanul Hafiz after he won the nomination. That is The Local’s account, and voche.me did not check it against the party or the Legislature.

At the September 28 meeting, Beach Metro reports, she said her education and her work with a provincial ministry and as a constituency assistant for an MPP in Durham Region gave her the tools to serve as councillor. Her campaign website, the campaign’s own statement, says she is a former public servant who worked inside government for years and has lived in Ward 20 for nearly a decade. voche.me did not check these statements with the employers.

No result for her appears in the City Clerk’s 2022 results or the 2023 by-election results for Ward 20 council, and no source opened shows her in an earlier municipal race.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, two pages of her campaign website (home and About), The Local’s Ward 20 tracker, TTCriders’ Ward 20 page, The Green Line’s Ward 20 page and Beach Metro’s report on the September 28 meeting. Every statement taken from her campaign website is written as the campaign’s own account.

Ward context. The Ward 20 Scarborough Southwest councillor on the City’s Members of Council page is Parthi Kandavel, who is also a candidate. The 8 Ward 20 council candidates on the City’s roster are Parthi Kandavel (sitting councillor), Laikul Choudhury, Naser Kaid, Ariel-Rachel Karokis, Luigi Lisciandro, Sharmina Nasrin, Mohammad Ali Reza and Kevin Rupasinghe. The City Clerk’s 2022 results for council in Ward 20 list 8 candidates and 23,428 votes in total: Gary Crawford (8,216, elected), Parthi Kandavel (6,936), Kevin Rupasinghe (3,208), Lorenzo Berardinetti (2,773), Malik Ahmad (709), Corey David (615), Sharif Ahmed (608) and Philip Mills (363). The Clerk’s results for the November 30, 2023 by-election list 23 candidates: Parthi Kandavel (4,641, elected), Kevin Rupasinghe (3,854), Anna Sidiropoulos (2,275) and 20 others. Beach Metro’s September 30 report names Malik Ahmad among the eight Ward 20 council candidates and leaves out Naser Kaid. The City’s roster has Naser Kaid for Ward 20 council and a Malik Ahmad for TDSB Ward 10, so voche.me follows the City’s list. A Sept. 28, 2026 candidates’ meeting at the West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre, reported by Beach Metro, featured 4 of the 8: Parthi Kandavel, Ariel-Rachel Karokis, Sharmina Nasrin and Kevin Rupasinghe. Organizers invited only candidates who had given the City contact information when they registered. TTCriders’ page records her responses to its 18 questions, and its first three answers from her are Yes. Build Canada’s page lists no questionnaire answers from her.

Gaps. Her site links Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accounts. The Facebook and YouTube profiles returned only the account name or the site footer, and the Instagram profile returned only a summary from a web reader, so nothing from social media is used. The TikTok account was not opened. No public role is on record for her, so no minutes search applies. The Local’s account of her work history and her Liberal nomination bid was not checked against another source. The questionnaire has not been sent.
