About Robert Bazil

Robert Bazil appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 24 Scarborough-Guildwood. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 20, 2026 and the campaign website voterobertbazilscarboroughguildwood.ca.

His About page, the campaign’s own statement, says he is a former Guyanese award-winning journalist and corporate communications specialist, worked as a communications officer with the Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre from 2002 to 2008, emigrated to Canada in 2008, and is a licensed paralegal, Notary Public and Commissioner of Oaths in Ontario. Frequency News, in a September 16, 2026 report, gives the same account in its own words and adds that he was Chief Reporter at the Guyana Chronicle. The Local’s tracker says he is an executive officer at the Guyana Consulate General in Toronto. voche.me did not check his journalism awards, his paralegal licence or the consulate role with the awarding bodies, the Law Society of Ontario or the consulate.

His campaign theme is “Make Scarborough-Guildwood Safe Again”, and his About page says he will introduce programs for young people at their most vulnerable ages, pursue improved transit and customer service training for operators, affordable housing, winter maintenance and traffic congestion, and pilot a City-funded initiative supporting single mothers. His Vision page cites figures on traffic congestion, childcare, mental health, parks, housing, firearm crime and rents. voche.me did not check those figures. These are the campaign’s statements.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates and Members of Council page, three pages of his campaign website (home, About Robert Bazil and My Vision), Frequency News’ report of September 16, 2026, The Local’s Ward 24 tracker, Build Canada’s Ward 24 page, TTCriders’ Ward 24 page and The Green Line’s list of ward debates. No public office is on record in his profile. Every statement taken from his campaign website is written as the campaign’s own account.

Ward context. The sitting Ward 24 councillor on the City’s Members of Council page is Paul Ainslie, who is also a candidate. The 6 candidates for Ward 24 on the City’s list are Paul Ainslie, Robert Bazil, Jithender Mulamalla, Nachi Ramasamy, Arun Sivanandan and An Wu. A seventh, Rajinder Lall, withdrew on August 21, 2026. The City Clerk’s 2022 results for Ward 24 list 4 candidates: Paul Ainslie (12,483 votes, elected), Vivian Parker (1,820), Habiba Desai (1,307) and Keiosha Ross (703). Of the other five 2026 candidates, none appears by name anywhere in the Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results or its 2018 one. Build Canada’s Ward 24 page shows Paul Ainslie as the only candidate who answered its questionnaire. TTCriders’ page records Yes to all 18 of its questions from Paul Ainslie, Jithender Mulamalla and Nachi Ramasamy, and no response from Robert Bazil and Arun Sivanandan. The Green Line’s list of ward debates names none for Ward 24.

Gaps. His journalism, paralegal and consulate roles were not checked with the bodies that would know. A passage in The Local’s tracker concerns other people connected to an organization he names. No source opened ties the allegations in that passage to him, so voche.me leaves it out. The Guyana Chronicle’s two reports on his candidacy returned a redirect and could not be read. His site links no social media account. TTCriders’ page records no response from him, and Build Canada’s page lists no questionnaire answers from him. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Experience & community

2002 to 2008, as stated on his campaign website

Communications officer, Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre

His About page says he held this role before emigrating to Canada in 2008. Frequency News gives the same account. voche.me did not check it with the organization.
