Matthew Boateng appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 5 York South-Weston. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 14, 2026 and the campaign website matthewboateng.com.
His campaign website says he was born and raised in Ward 5, completed the University of Toronto’s Transitional Year Programme with the Class of 2026, and works as a music teacher, an ordained Reverend-Minister and a community liaison. It says he was Shelter Supervisor at the MAFAN Shelter from June 2023 to April 2025, running operations during the African refugee crisis, including intake, crisis support and housing placement. It lists volunteer work with 360°kids, the Syme Woolner Neighbourhood and Family Centre and Miracle Arena for All Nations. These are the campaign’s own statements, and voche.me did not check them with the organisations named. The Local, in its candidate tracker updated September 21, 2026, repeats that his website calls him a reverend and a music teacher.
His website’s message is “Protecting Communities. Investing in People.” It names five issues from the doors: rent that outpaces pay, youth without pathways, street safety, isolation of seniors, and deferred community infrastructure. It lists six commitments covering affordability, safer communities, youth opportunity, good jobs, seniors, and maintenance of parks, transit and roads. The Local summarises his platform as affordable rental housing, tougher action on illegal rent increases and renovictions, fair TTC fares, preventive community safety, and flood mitigation in Rockcliffe-Smythe.
