About Markus de Domenico

Markus de Domenico appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Toronto Catholic District School Board in Ward 2. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 19, 2026 and a campaign website, markus4ward2.ca. Ward 2 covers City ward 2, Etobicoke Centre.

The City Clerk’s results for the Toronto Catholic District School Board list him first of 2 candidates in Ward 2 on October 24, 2022 with 5,193 votes, marked elected. His campaign website says he has represented Ward 2 since 2018 and has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees and on the Audit, Labour Relations and Ukrainian Canadian Advisory committees. Global News called him the board chair in September 2025. His site also lists a petition to name a new Ward 2 elementary school and credits him with the purchase of two schools for Ward 2. Those are his own statements and voche.me opened no board minutes to check them.

An allegation about expenses is on the public record and is stated here as an allegation. Global News reported on September 15, 2025 that the provincial supervisor reviewed seven years of his expenses, with a total that the article gives as $90,000, and that Education Minister Paul Calandra sent him a letter with an itemized list of 61 items and asked him to return $6,700 worth of items bought with taxpayers’ money. The items the article names include five television wall mounts and an Apple watch band. His response, as Global News printed it, is that all expenses are vetted by staff and that the ministry is attacking him to silence him, and he said he had spoken with the supervisor about returning board electronics. The Local’s article of August 24, 2026 reports the same request and quotes him saying that trustees are allowed to use expensed items until the end of their term, after which they return or buy them, and that he returned some of the items. voche.me found no court ruling or regulator finding on the matter and did not read the minister’s letter itself.

Fiscal transparency

His website says tax dollars should be spent in classrooms with full board accountability, and says an audit found trustees and senior staff were not responsible for the board’s structural deficits. voche.me did not open that audit.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, the home page of his campaign website, his Know Your Vote T.O. page, the City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results, Global News’ report of September 15, 2025 and The Local’s article of August 24, 2026 on trustee candidates. His trustee role comes from the City Clerk’s results and The Local. His committee roles, achievements, endorsements and priorities come from his campaign website and are attributed to it in the sentences that carry them. The expenses matter rests on two news outlets that each carry his response, and no court or regulator record was found.

The City Clerk’s 2022 results for the Toronto Catholic District School Board list Markus de Domenico elected in Ward 2 with 5,193 votes and Gabriella Mazarakis second with 4,576. The Local’s article of August 24, 2026 names him as the Ward 2 trustee seeking re-election. The TCDSB’s trustee pages loaded only a browser check and its meeting site answered with an access error, so no board record was read. The Local reports that the province took over the TCDSB in June 2025 and that, while the board is under provincial supervision, the job of Catholic board trustees is limited to denominational matters. His 2022 result is stated for the ward numbered 2 in 2022, because voche.me found no board page that compares the 2022 and 2026 TCDSB ward boundaries. His campaign website says he first took office in 2018, and voche.me gives no start date because no board or City page opened states one.

Gaps. His Instagram page showed a profile header and follower counts, and the text of its posts could not be read. His Facebook and X accounts were not opened. No board minutes were read, so no recorded vote is cited. The campaign website lists endorsements from unions and public figures, which are the campaign’s own presentation and are left out. The questionnaire has not been sent.

The City Clerk’s declaration lists him first in Ward 2 with 5,193 votes, marked elected. The Local’s article of August 24, 2026 names him as the Ward 2 trustee seeking re-election.
