Josh Matlow appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 12 Toronto-St. Paul's. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 4, 2026 and the campaign website reelectmatlow.com.
The City’s Members of Council page lists Councillor Josh Matlow for Toronto-St. Paul's, Ward 12. His City profile, which ends with the line “Information provided by the Councillor”, lists these committees and boards: Executive Committee, Planning and Housing Committee, Toronto and East York Community Council, the Toronto Transit Commission, the Toronto Atmospheric Fund Board of Directors (as the Mayor’s Designate), the Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation Board of Directors, the Central Eglinton Community Centre Board of Management and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Board of Directors. No City page that voche.me opened gives the year he took office. His campaign website says he was elected in 2011 and The Local says he has served since 2010, so voche.me states no start year.
The City Clerk’s declaration of results for the October 24, 2022 general election lists Josh Matlow first among 4 candidates for Councillor in Ward 12 Toronto-St. Paul’s, with 22,670 votes, marked elected. Bryan Ashworth was second with 2,045. The 4 declared totals add up to 26,782 votes, so his share was 84.6 percent and Ashworth’s was 7.6 percent, calculated by voche.me from those figures.
The City’s Integrity Commissioner, Jonathan Batty, reported to City Council on March 22, 2023 on two complaints that City staff made under the Code of Conduct for Members of Council about Matlow’s posts on Twitter in June and July 2022. The report found that his conduct toward the General Manager of Parks, Forestry and Recreation violated Article XII (conduct respecting staff) and Article XIV (discreditable conduct), and that his conduct toward then Interim City Manager Tracey Cook violated Article XIV and Article 17 (reprisals and obstruction). It recommended a reprimand and a 10-day suspension of his pay. CBC News reported that Council voted on Friday, March 31, 2023 to take away 10 days of his pay. voche.me could not open the City’s decisions site (it returned HTTP 403), so it cites no vote count and no member’s recorded vote on that decision. CBC reports that Matlow said the report shows that the office of former mayor John Tory encouraged City staff to release only select information to him about the opening of park washrooms,.
The Local’s Ward 12 tracker, updated as of September 21, 2026, says he ran for mayor in 2023 and finished fifth, and that before joining Council he was a school trustee from 2003 to 2010. His City profile also gives the school trustee years, as text supplied by him. The Local adds that he has not released a detailed policy platform. voche.me did not check the trustee years with the school board or the 2023 result with the City.
His campaign website home page carries a letter in his name, which is the campaign’s own statement. It says he has made progress on safety, affordability, city services, transportation, parks and main streets, and that he is asking for another term. His Our Plan page groups his plans under headings that include safety, affordability, affordable housing, tenants, transit, parks and small business. His City profile and his About page both mention his family. voche.me leaves that out.
