About Dan Lovell

Dan Lovell appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 1, 2026 and the campaign website danlovell.ca. The address matches the one he gave the City and the pages carry his name.

His campaign website, the campaign’s own statement, describes him as a Scarborough-Agincourt resident and homeowner with 17 years of experience as a high school teacher and an activist with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. The Local says he teaches at Bur Oaks Secondary School in Markham and is a member of that federation. voche.me did not check either statement against a school board or the federation.

The Local says that in 2025 he ran as the NDP candidate in the federal election for Scarborough-Agincourt and placed last of three candidates. Wikipedia, a secondary source, lists the 2025 result for that riding as 1,449 votes for Dan Lovell (New Democratic), 2.85 percent, behind Jean Yip (Liberal, 27,552) and Aris Movsessian (Conservative, 21,732). voche.me did not open the Elections Canada results page, so the figures are given as Wikipedia states them.

His Platform page, the campaign’s own statement, lists these pledges: a property tax freeze, paid for by higher taxes on vacant homes and on homes worth over $3 million and a new tax on vacant commercial units; free TTC fares for youth and seniors; a chain of public grocery stores; public affordable housing; securing the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre site; ending private snow removal contracts; protected bike lanes; a maximum indoor heat law; ending protest bubble zones; and a smaller police budget. The campaign’s home page names the sitting councillor and says he supported Mayor John Tory’s property tax increases and the privatization of City services. voche.me has not checked those statements against Council records and does not repeat them as fact.

His Endorsements page lists the Toronto & York Region Labour Council, David Warner, whom the page describes as a former Ontario MPP, and Martha Hradowy, whom the page describes as president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. The Local also names the Labour Council and Mr. Warner. Those are the campaign’s own claims of support, shown as the campaign presents them.

Build Canada’s Ward 22 page records his answers to its questionnaire. He answered Yes to allowing more housing as of right in every ward, and Yes to publishing project-level budgets and schedules for major capital projects. He chose a decrease in the police budget after inflation, with some responsibilities and funding moved to civilian services. TTCriders’ Ward 22 page records that he answered Yes to all 18 of its transit questions. Those are his answers to a publisher’s and an advocacy group’s surveys.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, five pages of his campaign website (home, Platform, About, Endorsements and the X account it links), The Local’s Ward 22 tracker, Build Canada’s Ward 22 page, TTCriders’ Ward 22 page, The Green Line’s list of events for council candidates and Wikipedia’s page for the federal riding. Every statement taken from his campaign website is written as the campaign’s own account.

Ward context. The City's Members of Council page for Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt lists Councillor Nick Mantas. The City's list of certified candidates shows 10 candidates for the ward: Madhuri Azad, Bill Chan, Jackson Ho, Serge Khatchadourian, Rakhee Kotecha, Aaron Lal, Dan Lovell, Nick Mantas, Donny Morgan and Sindia Vijayarajan. The City Clerk's 2022 results for the ward list 6 candidates: Nick Mantas (8,228 votes, elected), Bill Wu (3,153), Antonios Mantas (1,841), Roland Lin (1,549), Serge Khatchadourian (1,383) and Anthony Internicola (677). Of the 10 candidates for 2026, only Nick Mantas and Serge Khatchadourian appear by name in those results. Build Canada's Ward 22 page records questionnaire answers from 2 of the 10 candidates, Madhuri Azad and Dan Lovell. TTCriders' Ward 22 page records answers to its 18 transit questions from 5 of the 10: Nick Mantas, Jackson Ho, Serge Khatchadourian, Dan Lovell and Donny Morgan. The Green Line, in an article dated September 24, 2026, lists a Ward 22 candidate debate on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Agincourt Mall, Room 525. The listing names no attendees, so voche.me states none. The City's decisions site (secure.toronto.ca) returned HTTP 403 when voche.me requested it, so no recorded vote or Council decision is cited from it.

Gaps. The City’s decisions site refused the request (HTTP 403), and he holds no City office, so no minutes search applies. The Elections Canada results page was not read, so his 2025 result rests on Wikipedia and The Local. His X account opened with a web reader and returned only profile details and a login prompt. His Facebook page returned only its name and his Instagram page returned only profile details, so nothing from social media is used. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Experience & community

17 years, as his site states

High school teacher

His About page says he has 17 years of experience as a high school teacher and is an activist with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. The Local says he teaches at Bur Oaks Secondary School in Markham.
