Alice Wong's priorities: students first, more trades education, and responsible use of district resources
Common Sense has no school platform of its own; Richmond News's columnist noted this on September 30, 2026. Alice Wong, its one trustee candidate and a two-term trustee, told the City she is committed to putting students first, preparing students for the future, building strong school communities and responsible, transparent stewardship of public education resources. In the Richmond News questionnaire she said yes to more trades education, drug awareness in high school and the district's SOGI policies.
SCHOOLS AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Common Sense on schools
Wong's statement to the City says she has served two terms as trustee and gained experience in governance, budgeting, policy and strategic planning. Her page on the organization's site says she championed stable governance, academic excellence and parent engagement as a parent leader.
In the Richmond News questionnaire of October 7, 2026, Wong said schools should teach more basics such as reading and math, the curriculum should put more emphasis on trades, students should be taught drug awareness in high school, cellphones and artificial intelligence should not be banned, and there should be more educational support workers. She supports the district's SOGI policies and says parents are important partners.
Richmond News reported after the vote that Wong was re-elected as one of five returning trustees.
