Vancouver-Quilchena has five candidates on the ballot for the 2026 BC provincial election, but three are competing for much of the same pool of votes, and BC NDP Leader David Eby visited the riding on Thursday to try to take advantage.
Eby stopped in Vancouver-Quilchena on October 23 to support NDP candidate Callista Ryan, according to Oak Bay News. Ryan won about 38 per cent of the vote in the riding in the 2024 BC election, and she told the paper she is counting on a split between the two right-of-centre candidates to give her an opening.
"We're pretty confident with the base that we have," Ryan told Oak Bay News. "But we also do anticipate a vote split between Dallas Brodie and Carson Binda."
The split
Dallas Brodie holds the Vancouver-Quilchena seat. She won it as a BC Conservative but was ejected from that party and is now running as the leader of OneBC. The BC Conservatives are running Carson Binda, who previously worked for the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation.
Mario Canseco of Research Co. told Oak Bay News that if Ryan holds about 38 per cent and Brodie takes 10 to 12 per cent, that split could cost the Conservatives a seat they would otherwise hold safely.
Binda pushed back on that view. "Folks at the doors are overwhelmingly supportive of the Conservative Party of British Columbia," he told the paper, adding that he has seen no sign of OneBC support among residents.
What each candidate says
Brodie told Oak Bay News that property rights are the central issue in Vancouver-Quilchena. She said a federal agreement with the Musqueam has raised questions about property rights across the riding.
"The biggest thing facing Vancouver-Quilchena right now is the attack on the property rights of people in the riding," she said.
Binda said he sees taxes as the main concern. "We need a tax code that makes British Columbia an affordable place to do business," he told the paper.
Ryan said her campaign is focused on NDP housing and affordability policies, and she told Oak Bay News that residents have expressed frustration with Brodie's conduct in office.
Douglas Courtemanche is running for the BC Green Party in the riding, and Petra Kuret is running for Centre BC. Profiles for all five candidates are at /bc/provincial-2026/races/mla/vancouver-quilchena.
