The Conservative Party of BC raised more than $2.7 million in the three months ending September 30, 2026, nearly three times what the BC NDP raised in the same period, according to Elections BC financial filings reported by The Tyee.
The BC NDP raised $986,093 in that quarter, and the BC Greens raised $345,803, The Tyee reported on November 5.
The reporting period covers the summer months and the first nine days of the provincial election campaign. Former premier David Eby visited Lieutenant-Governor Wendy Cocchia on September 22 to request the election call, two years ahead of the fixed date.
The leadership change and the money
Former Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay had resigned before the election was called. Lorne Doerkson, the MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin, became interim leader.
According to The Tyee, nearly 90 per cent of the Conservative donations in that quarter arrived after Findlay left and Doerkson took over.
Andrew Reeve, a government relations consultant and former BC Liberal press secretary, told The Tyee the numbers showed the party made the right choice in changing leaders.
"Once Lorne was leader the money started pouring in," Reeve said, as quoted by The Tyee. He added that he understood the money continued to arrive through October.
A sharp drop for the NDP
In the comparable quarter before the 2024 fixed election, both the BC Conservatives and the BC NDP each raised more than $3 million, according to The Tyee. This year the Conservatives came close to that number, but NDP donations fell sharply.
The drop happened before the child care management questions that dogged the NDP in the final weeks of the campaign.
The Conservatives won 63 of 93 legislature seats in the October 24 election, according to preliminary results reported by The Tyee. The NDP, which had governed since 2017, moved into opposition.
