01 / Introduction
About Michelle Livaja
Elections BC lists Michelle Livaja as the BC NDP candidate for MLA in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, on its candidate list stamped October 3, 2026 6:00:07 PM. Nominations could be submitted until 1 p.m. that day. The other accepted candidates in the district are Ayla Dumais (Conservative Party), Jeremy Valeriote (BC Green Party) and Dan Wood (CentreBC). Pique Newsmagazine reported on October 2, 2026 that Valeriote is the incumbent and won the riding in 2024.
Pique's report names Livaja as the BC NDP candidate and says she previously ran in the riding in the 2017 election, finishing third. That report is the link between the 2026 candidacy and the 2017 one. The Elections BC statement of votes for 2017 lists Michelle Livaja (NDP) with 6,532 votes, 26.93 percent of the valid vote. Jordan Sturdy (Liberal) won with 10,449 votes (43.08 percent) and Dana Moore Taylor (Green) received 6,947 (28.64 percent).
Pique writes that she was born and raised in the Lower Mainland and has lived on Bowen Island for 26 years. It also reports that, according to a biography provided by the NDP, she works in the Minister's Office at the Ministry of Infrastructure after four years as a constituency assistant in North Vancouver-Lonsdale, and that her leadership experience includes her union's executive council, a delegate seat at the local labour council and a board seat at Metro Vancouver Alliance. These details are the party's account. voche.me did not find a government, union or Alliance record that confirms them.
In a column she wrote for the Squamish Chief in May 2017, she described herself as a union steward, executive councillor and delegate to the Vancouver District Labour Council, with 30 years in the workforce that included City Hall, the Board of Trade and the BC Nurses' Union. Those are her own words from 2017. For 2026, the NDP says her priorities include strengthening health care, reducing costs and responding to the trade war, as Pique reports. voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

NDP priority for Livaja: strengthen health care
Pique reports that the NDP says her priorities include strengthening health care. The report gives no hospital, measure, figure or date.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
The NDP's words about her, as summarized by the newspaper. voche.me found no 2026 statement of hers on health care.
What still needs checking
Does Livaja name a health care measure for the Sea to Sky corridor or Bowen Island during the campaign?
The BC NDP platform page says the party will keep recruiting and training more doctors, nurses and healthcare workers of all kinds. The page does not name Livaja.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
Party text. voche.me found no Livaja statement that repeats it.
What still needs checking
Does Livaja say how the party's health care plan applies to the district?
Livaja has held no elected office that voche.me found. The 43rd Parliament member record lists no member of this name, so no legislature speech or vote record applies. The jobs in the NDP biography are staff positions, and voche.me did not open any record of them. Her one public record is the 2017 statement of votes.

Statement
Column to the Squamish Chief for the 2017 election
As the 2017 NDP candidate, she wrote that she had lived on Bowen Island for 17 years, listed her roles as union steward, executive councillor and delegate to the Vancouver District Labour Council, and named better health care, affordable housing and family-supporting jobs as priorities. She wrote that the NDP planned 114,000 housing units, a $15 minimum wage and $10 a day child care, and she criticized the Liberal government on LNG and forestry jobs. These are 2017 statements and are not 2026 commitments.

Four candidates announced in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky provincial race
Names Livaja as the BC NDP candidate with Valeriote, Dumais and Wood, says she ran in the riding in 2017 and finished third, and gives her background and priorities from an NDP biography.
Candidates reveal most pressing issues for Squamish in their own words
Prints columns from four of the five candidates in the riding in 2017, including one signed by Michelle Livaja for the NDP. The Libertarian candidate sent none.
Sources checked October 3, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
No campaign website of her own was found. The BC NDP West Vancouver-Sea to Sky page carries David Eby's name and the line "We're David Eby's team here in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky", and no page of that site names her. The party's team page showed no entry for her. No social media account that a party page, Pique or her own page links to was found, so none is used. The biography Pique quotes (Ministry of Infrastructure office, constituency assistant work, union executive council, labour council and Metro Vancouver Alliance roles, 26 years on Bowen Island) comes from the NDP, and no government, union or Alliance record was opened. Pique does not name the MLA she assisted. Her 2017 column gives 17 years on Bowen Island, which fits the 26 years in the 2026 report, but that is a calculation and no source states it. The statement that the NDP lists her priorities as health care, costs and the trade war is Pique's summary, and the NDP release or page behind it was not found. Positions on housing, public safety, education, climate, transportation, taxes and governance are unknown. No portrait was found that the candidate or the party published. All-candidates meetings, endorsements and campaign finances for 2026 were not found on this date. The questionnaire has not been sent.
Research status
What voche.me has checked
Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list (stamp October 3, 2026 6:00:07 PM) and key dates page, the 2017 statement of votes, the BC NDP West Vancouver-Sea to Sky page (home, team, events, latest and about pages), the party's team page and platform page, Pique Newsmagazine's report of October 2, 2026 and her 2017 column in the Squamish Chief.
The name search was limited. The WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit, so voche.me read a Google News feed for her name, the site search pages that answered, and the pages those results named. Two news sites, one of them the Squamish Chief's own search page, refused the search request. No campaign website of her own, no social media account tied to this candidacy and no party candidate page were found. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date, and it leaves open what the candidate has said elsewhere.
From the same NDP biography, which says the four years included the COVID-19 pandemic. The report does not name the MLA, and voche.me did not find a record of the position.
Union executive council, labour council delegate, Metro Vancouver Alliance board
From the NDP biography as reported by Pique. In 2017 she wrote in the Squamish Chief that she was a union steward, executive councillor and delegate to the Vancouver District Labour Council, and that she worked with the Metro Vancouver Alliance. No union or Alliance record was opened.
