01 / Introduction
About Michele Lau
Elections BC lists Michele Lau as the Conservative Party of BC candidate in New Westminster-Coquitlam, on the copy of its list stamped October 1, 2026 11:00:06 PM. The only other accepted candidate in the district on that copy is Jennifer Whiteside of the BC NDP, the sitting MLA and Minister of Labour. The Western Standard reported on October 1, 2026 that the party named Lau as its candidate the day before.
In 2024 the district elected Jennifer Whiteside with 12,757 votes, 59.13 percent of the valid vote, according to the Elections BC statement of votes. The Conservative candidate that year was Ndellie Massey, with 6,438 votes (29.84 percent). voche.me found no 2024 candidate named Lau in the statement of votes on 2026-10-02.
The party says she has more than 20 years of experience in banking, corporate finance and private business, and that she later founded or led businesses in hospitality, real estate and investment management. It also says she holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University, and that she takes part in the Vancouver Board of Trade. voche.me has not checked these claims with the universities, her past employers or the Board of Trade.
The party says she co-founded World Trade Centre Okanagan. A news release from the World Trade Centers Association, dated March 17, 2026, names Michele Lau as one of four co-founders of that centre in Kelowna and calls it the association's eighth World Trade Center business in Canada. The centre's own About page also lists her as a co-founder.

Party names her in New Westminster-Coquitlam
Campaign report that says the party named her as its New Westminster-Coquitlam candidate on September 30, 2026, and quotes a post by The New Westminster Times on her selection.
Sources checked October 2, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
No campaign website for her was found on 2026-10-02. The party's candidate page links only to the party's own social media accounts, and voche.me found no personal account tied to this candidacy. The Western Standard report of October 1 quotes a post on X by The New Westminster Times, dated September 30, which says the outlet spoke with her in Uptown New Westminster. X needs a sign-in to read, and the outlet's own site search found no story about her, so the interview was not read. The party's candidate page labels her "Interim Conservative Party Leader". The party's own news releases name Lorne Doerkson as leader, and its team page lists her only as the New Westminster-Coquitlam candidate, so voche.me does not repeat that label. Her banking and finance career, her businesses in hospitality, real estate and investment management, her two degrees and her part in the Vancouver Board of Trade are stated by the party, and voche.me has not checked them. The party page also names a volunteer role tied to a school parents' group. voche.me leaves it out because it concerns her family. The co-founder biography on the World Trade Centre Okanagan site opens in a pop-up that a direct read does not show, so it was not read. The party's platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name her, and no party news release naming her was found. Google News searches for her name returned stories about other people with the same name, which are not used. All-candidates meetings in the district, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.
