BC NDP candidate for MLA in Cariboo-Chilcotin, a retired teacher from Canim Lake.
Kathryn Askew is the BC NDP candidate for Cariboo-Chilcotin. Her campaign page and a party release, as reported by the Williams Lake Tribune, say she is a retired public school teacher with 32 years in education who lives at Canim Lake and held local and provincial roles in the BC Teachers' Federation. The sitting member is Conservative Lorne Doerkson, who won the district in 2024 with 69.59 percent of the vote. voche.me found no interview, forum answer or published position from her beyond one quoted party-release statement on 2026-10-03.
A researched record of Kathryn Askew's candidacy for the BC NDP in Cariboo-Chilcotin. Her own statements found on 2026-10-03 are two sentences the Williams Lake Tribune quotes from a party release. The other commitments are the party's platform, and none names Askew.
On dates without a confirmed appearance the public schedule is unknown; the candidate may still have activities that day. This static page changes only when its research is updated.
01 / Introduction
About Kathryn Askew
Elections BC's candidate list, stamped October 3, 2026 at 10:00:06 AM PT, shows two accepted nominations in Cariboo-Chilcotin: Kathryn Askew for the BC NDP and Lorne Doerkson for the Conservative Party. Nominations close at 1 p.m. PT on October 3, 2026, so the list can still change.
Her campaign page, hosted by the BC NDP, says she is a retired public school teacher with 32 years of experience in education and a long record of union and community service. It says she served in leadership roles with the BC Teachers' Federation and her local teachers' union, including as local president and bargaining chair, and received a national award for innovative teaching. It says she lives at Canim Lake and volunteers with the Hawkins Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Forest Grove Legion and the Canim Lake Community Club. The Williams Lake Tribune, in a report of October 1, 2026, repeats these points from a party news release. voche.me has checked none of them against a union, award body or club record, so each one is the campaign's own account.
In 2024 the district elected Conservative Lorne Doerkson with 13,714 votes (69.59 percent). Michael Moses of the BC NDP received 5,992 votes (30.41 percent). Askew did not stand in 2024: no candidate of that name appears in the district's 2024 result. The Tribune report describes Doerkson as the interim leader of the B.C. Conservatives as well as the sitting member.
voche.me has not contacted the campaign. Her background, her positions on each issue and any plan for the district are known only from the sources listed on this page.

Reporting
Williams Lake Tribune
Retired school teacher named BC NDP candidate for Cariboo-Chilcotin
Reports that the BC NDP named Askew, of Canim Lake, as its candidate against Conservative Lorne Doerkson. It repeats the party release's account of her teaching career, union roles and volunteer work, and quotes two statements from her. The 100 Mile Free Press carried the same report.
Sources checked October 3, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
The sources for her career are her campaign page and a party release repeated by the Williams Lake Tribune. voche.me found no teachers' union, school district, award body, fire department, Legion or community club page that confirms the 32 years of teaching, the local president and bargaining chair roles, the national award or the volunteer work. The campaign page does not name the local union, the award or the years, so none of them could be looked up. A 1999 BCTF Teacher magazine page names a Kathryn Askew who lost a race for second vice-president at the federation's annual meeting. The page gives no district or school, so voche.me did not tie it to this candidate. A person who can confirm it with the BCTF may add it. No campaign website other than the party-hosted page and no social media account of her own was found: the social links on her page go to the party's accounts. The party's October 1, 2026 release that named her was not found on the BC NDP releases page on 2026-10-03, and the BC NDP team page loads its candidate list by script and held no readable names. No interview, forum answer, endorsement or campaign finance record was found. The 2026 platform items are the party's. Nominations close at 1 p.m. PT on October 3, 2026, so the list of candidates may change. The questionnaire has not been sent.

What voche.me has checked
Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list (stamp October 3, 2026 10:00:06 AM PT) and key dates page, the 2024 statement of votes, Askew's campaign page on the BC NDP site, the BC NDP Cariboo-Chilcotin page, the BC NDP team page, releases page and platform page, the Williams Lake Tribune report of October 1, 2026 and the same report in the 100 Mile Free Press, and a 1999 BCTF Teacher magazine page. Web searches covered her name with Cariboo-Chilcotin, Canim Lake, the BCTF, the local teachers' association, the award, the fire department and social media.
Not found on this date: a campaign website other than the party-hosted page, a social media account of her own, an interview, a forum appearance, a union or award record that confirms the campaign's account of her career, and the party's October 1, 2026 news release itself on the party site. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date.
