About John Atoyebi

Elections BC's candidate list, stamped October 3, 2026, shows three accepted nominations in Vancouver-Langara: John Atoyebi (BC Green Party), Sunita Dhir (BC NDP) and Jaime Stein (Conservative Party). Nominations closed at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026.

The BC Green Party's candidate page calls him John K. Atoyebi and says he is a lawyer, former judge, public-sector investigator and community leader. It says he was a Magistrate and District Court Judge in Nigeria before he immigrated to Canada, worked in retail, traffic control and construction while he completed the requirements to practise law in Canada, and is now a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. It says he is Principal Legal Counsel at Kebuiii Global Law Corporation. These are the party's statements. voche.me could not check the licences or the earlier roles with the bodies that hold them.

The same page says he spent more than two years as an Investigator at the Office of the Ombudsperson of British Columbia, examining complaints about administrative fairness across more than 75 municipalities, regional districts and improvement districts, and that his work included advising on whistleblower protections under the Public Interest Disclosure Act. It says he serves on the City of Vancouver's Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee, previously served on the Vancouver Heritage Commission, is Secretary of the Vancouver General Hospital Thrift Store Board, and is Executive Director of the BC Black Advocacy Society. It says he is President of the African-Canadian Agricultural Producers Cooperative and a director of the African-Canadian Farmers Society.

The party's page says he holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. in Common Law and a Master of Intellectual Property and Development Policy, and is pursuing an LL.M. at UBC's Allard School of Law, with research on reoffending among Canadians who were previously in prison. It says he received a BC Achievement Foundation Community Award in 2026. BC Achievement's own 2026 Community Award page lists a John Kehinde Atoyebi among the awardees, and its profile of him, which gives his place as Vancouver, describes the same community roles and the same Ombudsperson work. That profile does not mention the candidacy. voche.me treats the two as one person because the party's page names the same award and the same roles.

In the 2024 general election the district went to Sunita Dhir of the BC NDP with 8,506 votes (48.43 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Bryan Breguet of the Conservative Party received 8,087 (46.05 percent) and Scottford Price of the BC Green Party received 969 (5.52 percent). The statement holds no entry under the name Atoyebi. BC Ballot lists no earlier run, term or finance report for him.

The name search was limited because the WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit. Bing returned unrelated pages, DuckDuckGo showed a verification page, Google returned no result list, and a Google News search for his name returned only pages about other people with similar names. None of those pages was tied to this candidate by a page that was opened, so none is used. No website of his own was found. His X account and an Instagram profile are linked from the party's candidate page. X answered HTTP 402 and was not read. The Instagram page was read through a summary tool only, so nothing from it is used. LinkedIn refused the request, so nothing from it is used. The background facts come from the party's page, and BC Achievement's profile repeats some of them. The Law Society of British Columbia's lawyer directory did not return a result page for a scripted search, so his membership there and in the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society was not checked. His work at the Office of the Ombudsperson, the Nigerian judicial roles, the Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee, the Vancouver Heritage Commission, the Vancouver General Hospital Thrift Store Board, the BC Black Advocacy Society and the two African-Canadian agricultural organizations were not checked with the bodies themselves. The City of Vancouver's pages answered HTTP 403, and the Ombudsperson's home page does not name him. BC Achievement's 2026 Community Award page lists a John Kehinde Atoyebi, and its profile gives Vancouver as his place and describes the same community roles and Ombudsperson work as the party's page. The profile does not mention the candidacy. The party's page states that the candidate received this award, which is the link voche.me relies on, and a person may want to confirm it with BC Achievement. The party's page says he served more than two years as an Ombudsperson investigator and uses the past tense. BC Achievement's profile uses the present tense. The party's plan page says the full platform is coming soon and does not name him. The text of the party's media releases page, read on 2026-10-03, holds neither his name nor Vancouver-Langara. No all-candidates meeting, endorsement, campaign finance record or news report about this candidacy was found on this date. The questionnaire has not been sent.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list, key dates page and 2024 statement of votes; the BC Green Party's candidate page for him, its list of 2026 candidates, its plan page and its media releases page; the BC Achievement Foundation's 2026 Community Award page and its profile of the recipient John Kehinde Atoyebi; and the BC Ballot page for him. The name search was limited because the WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit, so voche.me used Bing, DuckDuckGo and Google News directly. They returned no page about him.

No website of his own was found. His X account, linked from the party's page, answered HTTP 402 and was not read. An Instagram profile linked from the same page was not used, and LinkedIn refused the request. Most of what the page says about him is the BC Green Party's own account, and the independent confirmation voche.me found covers the 2026 BC Achievement award and the profile text published there. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date. The candidate may have published material that these searches did not reach.
