About Janet Routledge

Janet Routledge is the BC NDP candidate in Burnaby North on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. The list read on October 3, 2026 shows two candidates in the district, Janet Routledge (BC NDP) and Simon Chandler (Conservative Party). In 2024 she won the district with 10,724 votes, 53.26% of the valid vote, ahead of the Conservative candidate with 8,658 votes (43.00%) and an independent with 754 votes (3.74%), according to the Elections BC statement of votes.

The legislature record lists her election years as 2017, 2020 and 2024. The government named her Parliamentary Secretary for Labour on December 7, 2022. Government releases of April 11, 2023 and June 12, 2024 give her that title, and releases of August 13, 2025, March 12, 2026, September 1, 2026 and September 21, 2026 call her MLA for Burnaby North. The legislature's member profile, read on October 3, 2026, still says she is Parliamentary Secretary for Labour. The legislature's page on whips shows her as the Official Government Whip, and says a whip makes sure members of the party's group attend sittings and vote together with that group. The page gives no start date.

In the legislature in 2026 she made seven statements to the House. She spoke about optometrists, the work of Options for Sexual Health, food banks and food programs in Burnaby, Creative Industries Week, a retired firefighter who saved a driver from a burning car, Mining Month, and a deafblind advocate. The 2026 vote index lists 54 recorded votes for her. In February 2026 the House named her to a special committee that reviews parts of the Insurance (Vehicle) Act.

Government news releases in 2026 quote her on Burnaby Hospital (March 12 and September 21) and on Brentwood Park Elementary (September 1). The September 21 release announced $210 million from the Province for the hospital's emergency department and surgical unit, in a plan the Province renewed after the Budget 2026 timeline change.

The legislature's member profile says she worked for the Public Service Alliance of Canada for more than 30 years and was a founding member of the Everywoman's Health Centre. voche.me did not check those statements with either body. Her campaign page, read again on October 3, 2026, says she has spent her career helping people access quality health care and assert their rights, that she is a lifelong member of the labour movement, and that she advanced employment standards for gig drivers as Parliamentary Secretary for Labour. Those are the campaign's own statements.

Checked again on 2026-10-03. Her MLA website (janetroutledge.ca) and the BC NDP caucus page (bcndpcaucus.ca) answered HTTP 503 again, so her newsletter and news posts were not read. The legislature's page on whips gives no start date for her role as Government Whip, and the legislature's member data lists no role for her. No source opened gives an end date for her role as Parliamentary Secretary for Labour: the last release found that gives her the title is dated June 12, 2024, releases from August 13, 2025 on call her MLA for Burnaby North, and the legislature's member profile read on 2026-10-03 still says she is Parliamentary Secretary for Labour. Her X page shows a short description and no posts without signing in, the Facebook page shows no readable posts, and Instagram shows no readable text. Nothing from them is used. Burnaby Now now redirects to an archive page at Vancouver Is Awesome (HTTP 301), and that page answered HTTP 403, so no Burnaby Now candidate profile was read. The WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit on 2026-10-03, so the name search was run through Bing and DuckDuckGo pages read with WebFetch (Bing returned unrelated pages and DuckDuckGo returned a verification page) and through Google News result lists, whose articles could not be opened. No 2026 news report that quotes her was opened. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Burnaby North was found, and the BC NDP events page and her campaign page list none. The committee's own page was not read, so her membership is taken from the House's appointment of February 19, 2026. The 2026 votes added on 2026-10-03 rest on the vote index alone, and the committee debates on bills were not read line by line. Her 2025 and earlier speeches and votes were not read. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.

What voche.me has checked

First pass, 2026-09-30: the Elections BC candidate list and 2024 statement of votes, the legislature's 2026 speech and vote indexes, 13 transcripts from 2026, the legislature's page on whips, two government releases from 2022 and 2023, her campaign page, the BC NDP platform page and a 2024 party release. Second pass, 2026-10-03: the Elections BC list again, her campaign page, the BC NDP platform page, the legislature's speech and vote indexes, the page on whips, the legislature's member profile, and five government releases that quote her (2024, 2025 and 2026).

Changes on 2026-10-03. The campaign page and the BC NDP platform page were rewritten after the first pass: the campaign page now lists nine headings where it listed six, and the platform page now gives different figures. The four party entries on housing, health care, public safety and climate were rewritten to match the pages as read on 2026-10-03, because the earlier wording no longer appears on them. The first-pass statement that no 2026 government release quoting her was found was wrong. A search of the BC Gov News site on 2026-10-03 found releases that quote her, and they are added.

Her commitments on this page come from her statements in the legislature and in government releases in 2026. Each one states a view and names no measure of her own, number or date. Her campaign page states no measures of its own. Sections with no entry record that voche.me found nothing on this date.
